fans of mal waldron's "the quest" should check this out..recorded the next day with the same line up(almost..i think one player is different) also it is Ron Carter's 1st LP as a leader, I believe
I've been playing for 18 years but Mingus is still over my head...
Does it have to be acoustic and raer and old? The are are a couple of Robert Hurst sets and Charles Fambrough that I have that fit the bill. Christian McBride too. Although he does bust out the 'leccy on some tracks. [cue making of crucifixes-with-fingers at arm's length]?
anyone have that malachi favors record and can confirm that it is a great record on a real shitty press? i cant figure out if the recording was poo or the vinyl.
Dude is the reason I got into jazz and I Celebrate the Catalogue.

and I couldn't find a pic, but the Mingus Jazz Workshop "Stormy Weather" or whatever it's called (grey cover, pinkish lettering) with the Original Fables of Faubus, that shit's incredible as well. I celebrate the catalogue as well.
man this shit is somewhat of an elusive gem to me... I've been hearing of this lp for years but have never ever seen it. i am always waiting to cop this shit but it just hasn't happened yet... Is it as good as I think it is?
