I ask this semi-seriously, as more and more clubs/promoters out here are banning certain music because they think it causes fights. I can think of one example of a fight while I was behind the decks; I think I was playing MC Lyte or The Symphony. I don't really buy the theory, but hip me to your experiences and maybe it'll change my mind.

A few years back I was at a Talib Kweli/ Jurassic 5 show, shit was backpacker heaven. I'm chilling with some of my friends one of which can't see a show unless he pushes his way to the front. It seemed like it would be an easy enough task cause the pre-show DJ is spinning some mellow Common, and Jay Dee type of stuff and the crowd wasn't really that live. We're all pushing our way up to the front when all of a sudden them horns come in and MOP Starts yelling, all of a sudden It's like the royal rumble. I'm bobbing and weaving trying not to get caught up too much in the crowd and all thats standing between me and my friend in the front is this girl, I tap her on the shoulder to let her know I was trying to move around and she turns and straight up clocked me in the nose.

Are you serious, Ross? I don't know where or what you are playing out, but that's a huge concern for me when I'm spinning. Even if it isn't fights breaking out, I've always gotta moderate the levels of hyphy/crunk/fuck music just to keep dudes from getting too aggressive and whyling out, grabbing asses, whatever.
Sometimes it's shit that's overtly aggressive, like the Lil Jon "I'll fuck you up right now"-type records mentioned above, and sometimes it's just stuff that makes people too hype-- next thing you know a dude steps on someone else's sneakers and some dumb shit jumps off. Right now, "Tell Me When to Go" is a record that falls into that category for me when playing in the Bay and, yeah, I've seen fights jump off while or immediately after that record was played, even in relatively bourgie spots.
A couple records I love but don't play often because they make even me wanna swing on somebody: "P.S.K.", "Ambitionz Az a Rider", "Ante Up", "Shook Ones Pt. II", "Never Scared".
