Defunkt - Stranglin' Me With Your Love
And their second album "Thermonuclear Sweat" I like a lot. They were recording and releasing up until 1995. They may still be touring occasionally. Someone else had a story about their friend going on tour with them.
has anyone seen their live show?
umm... sorry homie, but I
not quite funk but that Bataan that came out earlier this year needs attention too.
Glad to finally have feedback. Now I'll go back to liking shitty music.
Labels:
Soulfire
Desco
Daptone
Misty
Lamar (funky afro)
Select Stones throw, ie: Breakestra
Psycho
Latin Express (funky latin)
Bamboo Shack (Australian, includes the Bamboos)
Cardboard City (Bluejays band has funky meters styled material with rock influences)
other Artists:
Lefties Soul Connection
make sure to grab up the recent releases by El Michels Affair.
JD & The Evil's Dynamite Band - Explodes Across the Nation
Don't have many UK funk band LPs, but I really like several of the
New Mastersounds 45s.
Lee Fields. mix of afro and funky soul, dope afro cover of get on the goodfoot, among a few heaters. straight outta WillyB
Calypso King - Soul Strike. very stripped down instrumental Look A Py Py sound. Bit samey, but hey it's a good place to be. Finland dudes.
Whitefield Bros - funky tinged with afro, "tight!" Krautfunk
J.D. & The Evils Dynamite Band. Bit more low key compared to the previous two, but similar instr funk/afro sound.
I think that's it for LPs. They all have at least a few great cuts, Lee Fields is probably the best one.
Played it last night during a set. Love the LP.
Quantic Soul Orchestra - both their LPs are fire

yes, my only qualm with this is I wish it was longer
Actually, for whatever reasons I'm not usually a fan of newer funk releases besides the obvious stand outs like Sharon Jones. But those two are exceptions to the rule. Didier Sound Spectrum is an out of print Finnish funk record that Sampo released a few years ago. El Michels Affair is readily available. If it's okay with Sampo I can post the Dider LP.
Anyway, please keep adding.
Shawn Lee's ping pong orchestra.
Edit: You figured it out
