Didn't Raj mention a "record store listing" as part of some of the SS 2006 renovation? Or am I just imagining things?

Yes he did. I'm speeding the process along. Add on or you're soft.

Not in the cards at the moment. Would be kind of nice of these stores advertised on here.. but a free database with my rising web hosting bills ='s not worth the headache.

Rhino Records (I'm especially afraid of this one dying, they moved into the village, I'm not sure of the new address, the published one is the old one)
    New Paltz, NY (845) 255-0230

TN, you are right, Rhino has moved to a much smaller spot in the village. So the huge dollarbin section they used to have is more or less non-existant, but they're still worth a visit. The new store is right below a bookstore (I think Barner Books is the name), so I believe this is the address for Rhino:

    3 Church St
    New Paltz, NY 12561

There's also Jack's Rhythms, which is on Main Street, and only a few feet away from Rhino:

    Jack's Rhythms
54 Main St, New Paltz, NY
    (845) 255-1082

No prob, just post the phone number & address of that "private dealer" in my area you were talking about in PM's

The list of stores that have closed around here in the past year is longer than list of open stores, but here's a few, with even a "star rating" (*=worst ****=Best) to help you decide where to hit:

Hmmm looking up this list, I found a few stores (not shown above) I myself had never heard of - I'm going to investigate and may update. Salem Record Exchange wins hands down. In other words, NO, NO RECORDS THERE!

Very nice prof! No, #9 is Cake Shop (which I've never actually been to so can someone please confirm this?) #10 is Generation, #11 is Subterranean, #13 is actually Burkina which is in no way a record shop but I was gonna put on there because you can get all your mix CDs there (well, the proper rap mix CDs, not the DJ rare groove shit).

And Burkina is the mix CD joint - also cheesy hip hop and NYC subway shirts.

iSync + iPod = never having to wait to get home to look up an address.

Generation closed? Not that I know of... now Second Coming, that was up the block from them, they've been closed for years though.

don't blame the people that own these records or think they're good, blame the people that DON'T own them and keep sweating them like there's some kind of difference in the music just because they're rare.

I couldn't have said it better. [/thread hijack]

Yes Bleeker Bob is real and has been there for a very loong loong time, but I'm not sure how many records they actually sell with the ridiculous prices. Actually it mostly caters to the Rock and Punk crowd.
