  • We only have 3 real record stores in Dallas

    RPM Records
    Jupiter Lane
    Garland, Texas

    Bill's
    Spring Valley Blvd.
    Dallas, Texas

    Forever Young Records
    2955 S Highway 360
    Grand Prairie, TX 75052

And we have a chain called Half Price Books & Records and they have 15 locations. Find any one of them and they'll give you a map to the rest of them.

Has there ever been an SS thread on venting about Bill's??? Gawd I hated that place but you had to go there. I guess Bill's still there, ogling young men and rasping out prices that are $3-$5 too high.

Too bad Collectors closed down. RPM was my shit when I lived in Dallas.

I use to use it alot. But their top rated stores is

    Vertigo Records
    Organised Sound

    Ummm, no...

Tune up was a really great store. But, it's been closed for awhile now.

But it's great for getting some store info for a city you might be checking out.

  • 2) A campaign to inspire people to shop again for records, and ALL[/b] records, not just raer.

If it makes you feel a lil' better, SS has definitely accomplished this for me.

I wish I could build a dope collection of super-raers and unknowns like all of you ballers (not being sarcastic here)...but at the very least, I'm glad to learn about so much unheard greatness (to my ears). Maybe my diggin game will get stepped up as 2006 progresses, but this site has already increased my knowledge of good music. Thanks SS.

The two latest albums I love that I woulda never heard cept for SS is that McNeal and Niles "Thrust" which is never far from the cd player any more, and this "Fever Tree" album I picked up after seeing them mentioned a lot. Great stuff.

    Sorry, not tryna threadjack.

Thanks to all for helping so far. Recordstorereview is not that great because:

-The people who use it talk up Beatles/Punk/Indie record sections of stores
    -It's infrequently updated
-It has HUGE[/b] holes in certain cities (they did not have any of R*ch's Dallas recommendations!)
-I'm trying to do this so I can put it up on my website. So everyone on here can use it when needed. Please help me out!

I have zippee Southern spots, NJ, PA other than Philly, and Midwest. I know on Recordstorereview, they have 1 spot listed. There's gotta be more than that in Memphis right?

Pitch into the list to help the community. I will post on my website when it's complete. Remember, this isn't about secret thrift stores. It's about helping your neighborhood spots be stronger so they can hit you off in the future. [/b]

Non, what are the criteria here??

What type and quantity of vinyl does there need to be for a spot to be deemed worthy?

Do rap/house shops with only 12s count if they've got loads of used stuff?

  • This is for Austin, TX. I just cribbed it from this thread:

    http://soulstrut.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=crates&Number=522151&Forum=All_Forums&Words=austin&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=3&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=494677&Search=true#Post522151

Since it had all the address info and stuff already. So thank users billbradley and SLurg.

    billbradley:
    "Waterloo - 600 N Lamar Blvd # A, Austin, 78703 - (512) 474-2500
    Antone's - 2928 Guadalupe St, Austin, 78705 - (512) 322-0660
Sound on Sound - 106 E North Loop Blvd, Austin, TX (512) 371-9980
    Snake Eyes Vinyl - 1211 E 7th St, Austin, TX (512) 220-7019
    End of an Ear - 2209 S 1st St, Austin, TX (512) 462-6008
DJ Dojo - across the street from End of an Ear"

    SLurg:

"Music Mania, next to Fiesta supermarket, 3909 D North IH 35, if you have a couple of hours to spend browsing through tons of unorganized 45 (that's what diggin is about anyway)

Cheapo on Lamar & 10th, don't expect to find anything mint or near mint though

Piranha in Round Rock, 1208 N. IH 35, it's like 5 minutes out of Austin, but they really have a nice selection of vinyl"

Do rap/house shops with only 12s count if they've got loads of used stuff?

I would say they do as long as they carry used vintage stuff.

    what are the criteria here??

Technically, in my mind it should be stores that advertise that they sell vinyl (record stores proper, records &books, etc), or places that are well known in a city to have a boatload of vinyl. I would like to compile a list for the US (and abroad) of shops that are:

    A) Open and operational
    B) Have vinyl
    C) Are used vinyl stores[/b] or og backstock places

I'm making a word document, and then when functional for all regions of the US, will post it on my website.

    Thanks and peace
    T.N.

Don't believe the hype... they do have a whole lot of records, but most them have been around the area for many years...

Plus there's the Funk-o Mart (sic) on 10th & Market. I've always found this place to be a little . They've got tons of records but the place is always empty...NEVER see anybody buying a record. Not to mention all the sleeves are taped shut so you can't inspect the vinyl. Lotsa Latin too,but all taped...what is up with this place? Does anyone here frequent the Funk-o Mart??

They've got the Evel Knievel toy van right now... and a Charlize Theron issue of Playboy...

I do ALWAYS see people I don't recognize going through the records there though

    There is no Southern representation.
    A blast from the past
Here's a couple of the dome that I know of in Columbus

    -Judy Bugs
    1033 Broadway
Columbus, GA (This place is actually a book store w/ section for vinyl. The vinyl came from a record store called Flip Side records which used to be across the street from Judy Bugs.)

    -Riff's
2723 Columbus-Manchester Expressway (heading west towards Columbus)
Columbus, GA (Mainly rock in here. Small selection of soul and jazz).

The other "record stores" that I've been to out here has even been A). closed (out of business) or B). a store that doesn't even carry vinyl. As a matter of fact, you're better off hitting up a antique mall to get some decent records.

    Support your local record store.

    Later,

Yeah, but they're usually buying CCR and Journey records. The place is cheap...$1-3 records.

What's worse is I saw either Father or Son way out in the field in F*cknut, NC buying those "$300" sofas "$50" throw pillows from thrift stores.

Thats what they do... you'd be hard pressed to find a nice vintage home item before they get to it... and worse they sell most of it online...

PS Father and Son are the same dude

  • What's worse is I saw either (enter Soulstrutter name here) or (enter Soulstrutter name here) way out in the field in F*cknut, (enter state here) buying those "$300" modern soul "$50" funk 45s from thrift stores.
