i've always tried to steer clear of starting these up and try to just add to existing ones, but i've been working on something interesting and i wanted some opinions. it's pretty simple, but i think i like it that way (maybe even more minimal)http://www.patternbased.com/artists/mallard/meist.mp3...more beats!

the charts (instrumental)
The first one is mostly done... just maybe some tweaking in the bass regions.
The second one has been done for a while. I still like it a lot.
I was digging the drum patterns in that beat mallard. You're right it's simple but it swings in a chunky sort of way and the sounds are tight. The snare gets a bit annoying after a while, but it wouldn't be a big deal if there was an mc rhyming overtop.
