At the risk of further ridicule from C***s, here are the few things I copped at the local record show today. Worth getting up early and driving in the snow? I guess so...45's were pretty on point...

this is their 3rd and last LP, a raer-ish release on Bell that has Bernard Purdie handling the drum duties...not bad for mellow smoking sessions...

    45's:

Ann Mason - You Can't Love Me (in the Midnight Hour) - Atlantic
Junior Parker - I'm So Satisfied - Blue Rock
George Torrence - Licking Stick - Shout (finally a clean copy)
Ebony Jam - Ride On - Amos (this one is nice!)
Barbara Lynn - Promises - Jamie
    Arthur Alexander - Cry Like a Baby - SS7
Sylvia Robbins - Our Love - Sue
    Nite-Liters - Afro-Strut - RCA

thrift/flea and dollar bin record fair finds--25 cents to a dollar each.

that max roach lp is slept on. not a money record--but a nice one! that wild bill lp has one of the illest covers though it's not a big money record either. a few spiritual jazz records in there too.

steel funk lp in that one! it's probably the best steel band record i've heard! og nicodimus lp and a og sammy dread, moments, etc.

no-wave/ny dance/post-punk fans--that chandra record is INCREDIBLE! only real info i could find was a couple of wfmu playlists. indie rockers--found two of those walkmen self-released silk-screened ones--50 cents each!!! the first robyn hitchcock record (w. a couple of other soft boys on here) kinks boot and peter frampton's 'mod band'. it's not bad--but man...i can't get over the whole frampton thing!

post-punk fans--that one above is a stockholm monsters 7" single on factory.

    reggae for you.

haha, i distinctly remember listening to this in a certain New Orleans penthouse apt. one evening, followed by the even weirder "karaoke" version by a certain Long Island enigma.

i like that song- some tripped out shit.

  • i got this in a dollar bin. it's 1970 written and produced by david axelrod and his son. the sound is nice, it's like funky spanish folk-rock. it's also a white label promo copy.

is it worth anything? i'm having trouble finding anything out about it.

haha nevermind...it's in the ss record reviews

I just got around to spinning this, and I gotta say, this shit is pretty sick. I have the 45 of Run, Ni**er, Run already, and it's dope, but even then I wasn't sure what to expect from the full LP. But the heat is here - no strings and sweetness, all tight combo playing, heavy guitar, good drums, ARP touches...really raw and really real. Definitely an album you can play straight through.

    What does F/S/O mean??

Edit: also, judging by the publishing credits, and the short instro, a couple of the tracks besides Run, Ni**er, Run are from the same movie, making it a mini-Blaxploitation-soundtrack within an album, ala the Dells No Way Out.

    Anyone seen the film?

  • Are those the same dudes that were a Las Vegas revue-band? Had an LP by them a while back but sold it. Too boring for me. Lots if standard soul-covers like "Hold on I'm comin".

Woody Allen wrote a review on the back though!

    - J

  • Leroy Hutson- Feel the Spirit
Carolyn Franklin- Chain Reaction (really liking on this one)

then my girl came home last night from visiting her Grandma in NYC, from whom she snatched a few things, including

    Joe Bataan- Afro Filipino
Donald Byrd- New Perspective (extra copy)
and something called "Angela Must Be Free" (on Teachers Action Caucus)

is it worth anything? i'm having trouble finding anything out about it.

haha nevermind...it's in the ss record reviews

about 40 bucks if i remember right. maybe less since axelrod records have died in value.
