Let's talk about non-US prog a bit. (give some recommendations)

Osanna's Milano Calibro 9 is amazing, what else would I get into if I'm down with Osanna?

Yeah I know, but I just want to make sure we talk German, UK, Italian etc.

If your down with Osanna, you have to be down with Goblin. Who in my opinion is the baddest of all the italian/giallo prog scene.

Then you have your Museo Rosenbach, il Balleto di bronzo, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Metamorfosi (which is technically from rome).. Lots of great Hard stuff in the same vein as Osanna. The problem with Italian prog is it gets confused alot with alot of basic Italian rock. Not complex stuff. But there was so much amazing music from italy in the 70's. I GIGANTI, Le Orme, Alphataurus, Fabio frizzi, Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Bruno Nicolai, blah blah blah..

Nah, let's skip the easy stuff, and get into Korean, Turkish, and South American.

Thought this might be of interest to someone. The track is from an Icelandic progrock LP released in '72. 1000 - 1500 copies were, supposedly, made.

Well, alot of Korean prog is very psych. But you got:

HE5, HE6, MAGMA (not to be confused with the french Magma*[*which is actually a huge influence on alot of modern japanese bands Ruins, etc..]) San ul lim, Shin Jung Hyun. Need more PM me.

it is because progressive bands never had such strong identity here and it was naturally mixed with "mainstream" rock for the audience........

    for example :
"pooh" was/is a very lame pop band but their very first album has tracks that could be considered good progressive rock

...and let's not forget how PFM in the 2nd part of 70's toured as backing band for Fabrizio de Andr?? (italian popular singer).......

  • anyone got an O.G. German Oak LP?

Damn, I wish....That and an AR and Machines album.

    Where's Marco???

Dude has the Russian prog on LOCK...

Oh, he also gave me a heavily waterdamaged copy of YEAR ONE once but thats American so I suppose it doesn't apply...

Honestly all the Italian stuff I've heard I thought was super weak, and I'm talking big names too (Formula 3, Le Orme, etc)... then again I'm not really a prog guy...

I've never seen or heard any OST's, I know thats where the heat is...

Don't like PFM, haven't heard the others... but like I said, I'm not really a prog guy... I like Kraut and Canterbury stuff, a lil bit of popular UK/US stuff, but thats about it...

I feel you. It's difficult to get into if you don't have a good introduction. I mentioned them here(on the strut) before. Look into a band called "The Giallos Flame" INCREDIBLE modern stuff in the italian Giallo movie style.

Great album. Though I liked them better as Rainbow Band. I have a DJ set here somewhere where Dan the Automator dropped Where you going to be. That cover is completly Wizard Rock though.

  • hmmm...I've dabbled.

As for italian prog,a lot of it is pretentious and meandering.Much of it classically influenced, but here are some of the heavier bands/lp's:

    Italian Canterbury? this one:

    From South America:

    Argentina

Here's a real obscure one from Sweden:

France had TONS of prog bands in the 70's:this one is God.

    (prog+underground/psych sounds)

    +Canada-Sloche,Milkweed

    Denmark-Blast Furnace

    Finland-Tasavalin Presidentti(Lambertland),Finnforest,Pekka Pohjola

blah,blah,blah...I could go on and on.Just some off the top of the dome.
