    what's this one about?

  • what's this one about?

Just some latin type shit. Pretty nice. A side is like something you would hear at a quincenera and has a nice smooth bassline running through it along with some nice drums. B side starts off with some congas or bongos whatever for about 5 seconds then into some drums but I wouldn't really consider break type shit and then it's whatever. A side is killer for me personally.

Raer? Not Raer? What's the deal with this one?

not rare in the least. Should be a cover for it too.

yeah defintly not raer but a fun listen. I think its a bunch of white guys playing the characters too. Theres this one line on rthere I've always wanted to sample (if I actually were to sample)
"Wanted a negro man named Simon. Can read, write draw and bleed teeth"

    That quilt is
Twas a 21st b/day present handmade by my Nana. It's been sitting in the cupbopard for ages, I never used it until this year, but it has grown on me & now I am digging it.

  • Ja kki - Sun, Sun, Sun (WHAT A TRACK!)

What is with the price on this though? This shit runs like water here in NYC. Find one every couple of weeks. I used to sell them for $30 mint. Then I see copies getting $50-75 on ebay...

I still don't go that high but damn!

    Great track.

    Great track.

haha. i think i sold mine for around $75 or so in a list. I was "quite surprised". I think i got around $50 - $60 for the other Jakki on west end.

    I think $30 - $40 is pretty accurate.

Probably my fave from this weekend- No Neck Blues Band- "dutch money".

Also found this cool record by a group called Grapefruit, the lp is called "around". Very Beatlesesque or similar to Emitt Rhodes. NIce pop psych joint.

  • Thrift store pick-ups:

Along with David Ruffin's "My Whole World Ended" and The Family's S/T.

    My one FMU dig:

WFMU Dollar LP Bins (let loose at 7pm Friday)

lots of post-punk and no-wave stuff in this first pic--

    more wfmu dollar lp finds---

    WFMU finds -- --

the most i spent at wfmu was on the gainsbourg lp (8 bucks). all those 7" singles (in the wfmu finds) were a dollar or less.
max roach, gunter hampel, and pierre henry were $5 each

it's a good thing i did pretty well at fmu--because this was all i found from the fleas and thrifts this weekend (record wise). plus they were all duplicates except for the art blakey record--which is a pretty nice record --- 25 cents - 50 cents each--

OK--IS THIS THE SCORE OF THE WEEK OR WHAT?
    I kid, I kid!

found all thuggy tuff guy macho metal hardcore 7"s (there is more than what is in this pic) from the mid-90s at a storage unit auction. picked them up for 2 bucks. figured i could resell them. lots of stuff on rick ta life's label--lots of numbered, limited colored vinyl ones from his label (like the 25 ta life demo is # 3 of 71).
one would have thought that a tough guy nyxhc fan would have at least had some soft spot and had a fugazi or quicksand record in the bunch--but no--all thug no love!
I Know Some of You Strutters were all about this in the mid-90s! Some of you were tough dudes--don't act like you weren't!
FOr the record--I never was--and was threatened by some of these kids for making fun of madball--and thrown off the stage by a tough metalcore singer for skankin' on stage (yeah--i liked the 3rd wave ska at the time--kill me!)

please report to the non-existent part of the board!

Orchestre Poly-Rytmo is essential afro-funk, nice find

Highly recommend this reissue (great liner notes and pics)

I was given a blank label promo copy by the owner - who is a freind of mine. Every titles on his label (Soundway) is an essential purchase.

Picked up this Glen Brown bomb yesterday.

I'm really surprised so many people are digging this, disco/boogie must be gaining favor around these parts. I recommend cutting in 1-2 mins into the track where the reedit starts

Are all the tracks on that new Mulatu 10" previously unreleased? Thats one of the only SOundways I don't own yet. FUcking awesome label, and I can't wait to see what's to come.

    dimples D - Sucker dj's/Marley marl's sucker dub (injection)

I think all the songs were released on 45 back in the day, but this is the first time they're reissued. I bought it the other day and it is a true facemelter. It's a nice and loud pressing too.

    Co-Sign (ill covers to boot)

I love their attitude as well. The comment in the final pages (polyrythmo) on the "Greed of certain cultural boards and corporations not allowing the music to be shared" is

The Ghana soundz I&II are also recomended and afro-baby has some ill tracks on it

    without forgetting Mulatu

Great label and fairly succesful for its market. An example to be taken
