I went to WFMU today and got some good deals. Cesar decided to sell the rest of his latin records at half the marked price, and a lot of dealers let me talk down their price. I'm sure major deals and steals will go down tomorrow night.

No $$$ for digging this weekend - and I need to hold off until the vinyl show near me at the end of the month, where deep pockets will be essential. However, couple of e-digs arrived in the mail just in time to feed the monkey on my back. Freddie Scott Lp above is my personal palest of white whales - and after hoping to see it in a bin for years with no luck, those museum-quality archivists at Best Sound Records in Japan threw this sealed copy up on the Bay. I got it for a relative steal. Killer soul LP on the powerhouse Shout label, including a bunch of tracks that weren't on any of Scott's many 45 releases for the label.
Anybody who wants to hear this album, just, well...
Melvin Sparks- Sparks! Yma Sumac- Miracles Frijid Pink- S/T (on Parrot)
and after years of avoiding it, I finally broke down to get Dr. Buzzard's OG Savannah Band.
also a grip of private "hip house" records. This stuff is all daisy's, man. Check the b-side for the gangster-ish joint "I Love My Mother". Maybe I'm naive to what was going on in NY clubs in the early nineties, but i had no idea stuff like this was being produced.
Comments
