Last show I saw was Seu Jorge. It was pretty cool. Went mostly because my lady loves his music. I'm looking foward to seeing Konono No. 1 at the Knitting factory (LA) on Nov. 7th. Fucking homemade mic's, amplified kalimbas, and distortion up the ying yang. Some weed will definately be my co pilot that night.Speaking of weed, the animal collective show is coming up too. It's going to be a good month. What are some shows you all just seen, or are excited for?

  • I've seen Sonny Rollins, Noah Howard, and Billy Bang with Barry Altschul in the past month...all were excellent in their own ways. Best shows I've seen this year though would have to be Boredoms in Chicago and the Sun Ra Arkestra leading the Lexington, KY Mardi Gras parade.

I still kick myself for missing them when they played for free in Central Park when I was there for the weekend.

  • i caught ghostface a few weeks ago out in austin. a really good live show. i think it was some of theodore unit that came out beforehand and did a few tracks which were HOT TA DEATH!!! then ghost came out and blew my damn mind, of course. cappadonna was suprisingly really good too. my only minor gripe was that it coulda gone on for a lil while longer..

Split Lip Rayfield tomorrow, Jeff Tweedy Sunday.

  • "Gang of Four" in Baltimore smoked! Catch em if you can. Saw hot new indie band "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah" two weeks ago and was underwhelmed.

  • How could I have forgotten the Melvins/Jello Biafra show. Awesome. Loud as fuck! Awesome.

Just saw that one myself. Greta show. My ears are still ringing.

caught him last week w/mos def/jean grae and Pharoah...

    good show, ghost was aight.

next night was the same show only without ghost and with talib kweli.

Talib Kweli sounds like ass live.

he and mos did their blackstar joints and came off, that saved talib's sorry sounding ass.

Yeah I saw Audio Slave in SF maybe a month ago. Good Show. The last Hip Hop Show I went to was the Giant Panda, PUTS, and Crown City show in a small loft.

  • It's been quite a while since I've seen a live show. It's a combination of lack of funds and lack of good acts playing around here very often. But, I think the last really good show I saw was Bob Dylan here in Lexington, KY, in the summer of 2004. It was Dylan and Willie Nelson playing together at the local minor league baseball stadium. As season ticket holders for the baseball team we got in the gates half an our before the general public so we had a good spot (it was general admission).

Blackalicious is doing a show here in a week and a half, but I don't know if I'll be able to swing the $17 for a ticket. I'd like to see them though.

  • BB King at the Jackson Rancheria Casino several months back. Dude can (still) shreddd.

Saw Jamiroquai last night at a completly packed show at the House of Blues last night. They're still pretty on point. I couldn't believe there was that many people there. I guess i didn't figure in the gay factor.

that's awesome...I saw Willie this summer and was really impressed.

  • Beck last Friday. Pretty entertaining. Came out with Loser and kept that shit rocking until he closed with E Pro. Highlights included Where It's At. All during that number, Beck's sidekick (an energetic spastic dancer you may have caught on SNL) kept bringing out boombox after boombox, increasing the size until they had to back one in on a cart. He also pulled some chick from the audience to assist him on the harmonium as he sang Purple Rain. It got so out of hand he excalimed "Somewhere out there, Prince is crying." He did an extended acoustic set (including Debra) as his band lounged behind him in a restaurant setting, culminating in a pretty cool jam using the silverwear for percussion. All this without a smidgen of Scientology. I paid state fair prices to see this, but wouldn't hesitate to plop down $50.

Free jazz quintet featuring Leroy Jenkins, Jessica Jones, a member of a the AACM, and a japanese dude on bass at the Chicago Jazz Festival for free. Pretty much killin' it, while 90% of the audience was saying "that dude can't sing!" and "oh god...."
