Weekend FInd Sept 17-18

edited September 2005 in Strut Central
Some tough reggae business this week:Also got a copy of the Canadian Micron release. Not one bad track on here...and oh yeah, there's breaks. Not as consistent as the LP above IMO, but "Boasting" has one of the hardest drum intro's in reggae and is a killer on the dancefloor. Horns are off the charts. BOth LP's above are the OG Jamaican issues.LOve that record symbol at the top. Culture (King) had friends in high musical places and his tunes were always of the highest quality. The man is a pure gentleman in person, too. MAybe the most talented trumpeter in reggae. A fellow schoolmate of Jackie Mittoo's at Alpha Boys, Jo Joe is responsible for a lot more than he's named for. Always had a heavy dose of soul/funk in material (check his Moodie "Ten Steps To SOul" and "leaving Rome", as well as his work with Llans thelwellsa dn Wayne McGhie). This was a pleasant surprise. Killer versions of "People Make The World Go Round", "Children of the Night" and the breakbeat-y "It's Too Late"Nice break intro from Guyanese singer.LOve the Little Beaver version of this tune, so had to pick it up.Sick I Roy 12 over "Three Little Birds" and "Waiting In Vain" Wailers rhythms. Think this might sell for a bit.Funky Funky Al Green cover with generally the same backign track as Al Brown's "Here I Am Baby" cover by more funked up K in Canada.

That's a heavy record! It's a soundtrack from to a Quebec softcore porn. If you want more details including an interview with the arranger, you should listen to the piece I did for CBC on my website, www.waxingdeep.org, under 'music'. Despite the fact that it had a French and English pressing, that record is extremely rare even in Quebec. I'm told they pressed less than five thousand. To the right person you're looking at serious dough. I recently moved a sealed copy for over $400US. Anyway, there's a single from that album, and I have an extra. I also have an extra sealed copy of the album, if anybody's interested...

Dope Interview! I'm listening to it now

    !

    "drug-fueled dormitory orgy scene!"

  • Slept on this one. Not the best overall as an album, but damn there's one track that is hittin'! On some Piere Henry steez!

My boy just picked me up this. Some private Memphis prog/psych/folk stuff. Not as cool as it looks.

He picked me this up to. It's a wierd ass record. Again, not the most amazing thing that will ever revolve on your table but an odd one. I like the quote on the cover..."this album is different"---An Authintic Quote. On the back it says "One Garage. One Album. Two Fools. 3 Years." It's a private joint these dudes did in their own studio in the garage. The picks of the studio on the back and gatefold are sick!

  • Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy with the DL Lynn Christopher 8 track Tucked away all sly like in the corner
    all are now
    by this

found that actually a few years ago at some hillbillys house amongst a gang of country 8 tracks, but decided to throw it in with the others since those are the only 8 tracks I own. If someone seriously wants it, make me an offer.

  • meaty, i don't know what most of those records are, but i'm willing to let them make me think you're much cooler than I

Latino-mullets does not a cool man make. However theres some quality salsa and boogaloo and rock in the midst. I will be down for the mixxxx...... just give me a week 1/2. I already have one bubbling, so that might work out great.

    I had a fun day.

  • I dig that Aragon version of "Spinning Wheel" and I looped a very small section of that Diablos LP BITD when I thought I was a beat maker. Also, I love that Sunny "El Monito..." cover. I wish my Mom had taken better care of the copy I took inherited from her so I could frame it. The other 2 Sunny's are classics in my fam, as well as the Latin Breed. How're the rest?

    a few missing pieces...

    the illadelph smelled like

  • For $1 I picked up Das Efx and Mobb Deep's Microphone Master 12" I totally slept on this, probably because it came out in '95 and everyone was already ripping off das efx and playing out their style. Produced by Easy Mo Bee, remix by Spinna.

And for $1 a "special limited edition" Dr. OCtagon 12" on Bulk. The b-side has a pre-handsome-boy-modeling-school version of Bear Witness with Q-bert getting rediculous on it.

  • good find

wood grain im gripin. next is some candy paint for the sole purpose of dripping off.

That's funny, I just picked this 12" up last week and was totally surprised by how quality it was. I have the LP version though, sans Mobb Deep. I'll have to keep an eye out for that remix.

The players on that record are mainly from Europe. Only the bandleader and another cat were from the Boston area. Cool record, which I passed on an oppurtunity to pick up recently.

I thought this was all US players except Vagn Leick (keys) who is from Denmark

  • I talked to homie who released that record, and he recalled it was mostly Euro dudes. Also, he said most of the copies of the record went to Europe as well.
