My college freshman year was 1985-86. At that point, as far as new releases went, I liked a lot of the indie-rock bands like the Replacements and the Minutemen; roots-rockers like Jason & the Scorchers and Los Lobos; just about all the contemporary blues acts working the circuit.

However, I was going through a strong phase for older R&B and blues. I was just discovering all these record stores on the other side of town that stocked reissues that I only saw in fanzines. So while my classmates were jamming INXS on their Walkmen, this is where my record-buying money went:

    - "Jack The Ripper," Link Wray (45)
    - "Slinky," Link Wray (45)
    - The Best Of Joe Tex
    - The Wham Of That Memphis Man, Lonnie Mack
    - Dig Yourself, Barrence Whitfield & the Savages
    - Here Are The Sonics
    - "Hot Smoke & Sassafrass," Bubble Puppy
    - Having A Rave-Up With The Yardbirds
    - Uncut & Classified 1-A[I], Swamp Dogg
    - [I]Them Again
    , Them
    - Ride Your Pony/Get Out Of My Life, Woman, Lee Dorsey
    - NRBQ At Yankee Stadium
