New batteries, but it aint spinning.

Many, many years ago a Japanese customer gave me this before they were available State Side.

If I can't fix it should I pay to have it fixed?
Buy another Vestax?
Buy a newmark?
Something else?

I know we have oft debated the best portable.
I'd like to hear what people think of whats currently available in 2015.

I would open it up and see if there are any loose wires or bad connections around the power switch or battery terminals. The motors on these devices rarely burn out.
Is the motor making any noise when you turn it on? If you manually spin the record, can you hear an amplified noise through the speaker?

Everything looked good, but the back of the battery holder was a little gooey, like a battery had leaked.
I cleaned it out, and using a q-tip and icypurple alcohol cleaned all the contacts.

    Works like new again.
    Thank you Knewjack.
I have never cleaned/fixed a piece of audio equipment before, beyond replacing styli, balancing tone arm.

I have a vestax, but I miss my Fisher Price. I like how you could pop the lid off and listen quickly on the go.
