Came across this beauty in the filed this weekend.

not a raer by any means. Maybe a $20 record, but the packaging is insane.
Super clean copy.
Tinfoil stamp.
Heavy offset gatefold with ten-page booklet still attached.
Ironically, it reminded me of one of those really nice Pizziacto 5 vinyl releases from the late 90s...even though they were probably apeing this type of release.
Music is pretty solid cool-jazz early 60's I think.
Makes me really appreciate why I love records so much to come across something like this.

What are some of your favorite Ridiculously Beautiful Record Covers/Packaging stories.
OG or reissue, doesn't matter.

Nice one. Never seen it. Bet the music is good too.
Limelight did a series of elaborate gatefolds, sometimes the attached inside booklet would be dye cut.

I think the Frank Cunimondo with the cork cover is one of the best.

Lovely version of "Eleanor Rigby" on this. Everything else is tepid. Rare record, but not in the "hen's teeth" stratosphere.

When I read the threads title, I immediately thought of "Beautiful Friendship" by "The Three Sounds". It's on Limelight too and my favorite gatefold with a nice popup-feature and beautifully designed booklet glued inside. Unfortunately there's no picture of the opened gatefold to be found in the web. The front looks rather unspectacular.

It looks like Limelight had someone serious in their design departments back in the early 60's.

The collectro in me now wants to collect them all!

I don't have the record in front of me, but does anyone happen to know who the designer was behind these?
Im sure it was covered in one of those pricey taschen album cover books.

I think the Shalimar OST is a contender for most elaborate fold-out. It's certainly impressive, if not exactly elegant.

  • Andromeda Strain OST:

  • i immediately though to of shalimar too. off the fuckin hook

That looks amazing - according to discogs, designer was Daniel Czubak.

looks like Czubak did the majority of these types of covers for Limelight.
    Thanks for the sleuth work.
    Will start hunting them down.

  • There's a gatefold version of Les McCann's "Beaux J Poo Boo" on Limelight that I'm pretty sure Daniel Czubak designed.
It has very similar die cut action

The new Daft Punk looks nice.

Doc Delay's most recent is also top notch.

do you have an OG Modulo 1000? That has a trippy fold out cover too, doesn't it? Not as crazy as that Marinho Castellar though.

  • The Metronome Quintet - At The Zoo. Gatefold cover with figures of animals that pop-up. Reminds me of some books I had as a kid.
