Just saw Iron Man 3.

I missed Less Than Zero.

When did he "blow up"?

What are his essentials?

    I ride? Pasue.

I???ve come to really appreciate the Downey recently. Both his Sherlock Holmes films are great imo, and I???m looking forward to the third instalment. Tropic Thunder... a white guy blacked-up talking about never going full-retard.

    less than zero

    chaplin

    short cuts

    natural born killers

& kiss kiss bang bang was good and the shift from vulnerable to hyper confident.

as ridiculous as it sounds, i think his 'blow up' was a mix between recurring character on ally mcbeal and an impactful cameo in an Elton John music video.

So dreadful, this movie. I mean, they actually downsized her boobs. 't.f. kind of teenagers are they?

Yes, reverse boob-dimensionality is the most unbelievable element of this film.

Pretty remarkable career so far. He is the true comeback kid. 80's star, major rough patch, now on top of the world. He has 80's teen shit, serious drug-realted material, superhero shit. Jail stints. Stints on Ally McBeal and SNL.

    Essentials IMO are:

    2008 Tropic Thunder

    2007 Zodiac

    2006 A Scanner Darkly

    1992 Chaplin

    1987 Less Than Zero

    1986 Back to School

    2005 Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

    Bonus beats are IMO:

2005 Good Night, and Good Luck.

    2003 Gothika

    1999 Bowfinger

    1990 Air America

    1988 Johnny Be Good

    The recent Sherlock Holmes jernts.

    The recent superhero shit.

I never heard anyone reppin those Sherlock joints.

Is he rockin the talkin fast steez in those films?

  • Yeah I think his breakthrough role was in Less Than Zero where he played a crackhead.

"I'm The Real Iron Man You Just Robert Downey
A Crack Head In Black Face Fresh Out The County" - Ice Cube.

I'll be the requisite naysayer in this thread here.

I have never understood the love this guy gets. He has the screen presence of a saltine imo and less range.

I hear you. He's a good actor, but he's no Mark Wahlberg.

He???s not the greatest actor, but maybe his brand of acting has come into fashion. He seems to fit a lot of roles really well, even if that role is just Robert Downey Jnr.

The Sherlock films look amazing. His Holmes is Downey Jnr with a reasonably good attempt at an English accent I guess, and the editing of fight scenes (!) is slick, but it's not a traditional take on the sleuth.

The joke is that I would seriously compare the mildly talented Downey to the greatest thespian in the history of recorded media.

No range whatsoever. He can only play himself.

    My thoughts exactly...

There's also this whatever you want to call it:

  • I always associate him with this jawdropping scene in Black and White:

But for the record, I do not endorse the film.

    A mess?

I like the idea from the waist up, perhaps a less shiny shirt though.

The socks and boots are fine - though the matching greens is a little too much.

He needs to put a pair of pants on, non-gimmick pants.

embarrassing movie, right? will it be subject to some sort of revision/reassessment -- ever? or will it remain unforgivably bad forever?

    that movie is garbage.

i hadn't realized that it had fallen out of favor so quickly. i still enjoy watching it, but not because it's Life is Beautiful, but because it's a film and it's only supposed to be entertaining.

and robert downey jr is equally enjoyable.

btw. saying "only able to play himself" is playing one's self.
