What the heck happened to Amerie?

I really thought this girls career would extend way passed what it did. I still find myself revisiting that jam One Thing a lot. I wonder why she never came back with some more sample based heaters?

Ameriie breaks out of the box and explores new territory on her fifth album Cymatika, Vol. 1, which includes unorthodox topics ranging from ancient astronaut theory to androgyny to new world order mixed with elements of trance, electronic, house, heavy drums, and new wave.
???There???s a song about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah with extraterrestrials destroying them with nuclear weapons,??? explained the Georgetown grad of ???Sodom & G.??? ???I don???t feel like that???s really been done.???

Amerie had the misfortune of having her biggest hit ("1 Thing") utterly overshadowed by the somewhat-similar-sounding but massively inferior Beyonce song "Crazy in Love," the latter being so heavily hyped/pushed/paid for that it still managed to drown out a song that dropped 2 yrs later. No one seems to have checked for her since.

Plus her voice was kinda shit.

It took me a while to realize it wasn't a house of mirrors thing. Actually, I'm still not sure it isn't.

    Yes.

And I'll add Can We Go and All I Need are good joints for a another producer driven pretty girl that evaporates after cats leave them.

Add Ciara, Kelis, and countless of other disposable R&B artists.

  • her single "gotta work" is also very dope.

i remember reading in an interview someplace her saying that she didn't like to do shows and was very particular about how and when she liked to work on music. this attitude is not really conducive to a healthy music career.

    peace, stein. . .

Yeah, that was my favorite one. I kinda dug her style back during that little run of hers.

Kind of a bug-out that she straight-up jacked Ultramagnetic on this one:

This reminds me that my question from '07 was never answered:

What was sampled for Amerie's "Love's Off The Chain?"
Supposedly it was left off the album due to sample clearance issues but Rich Harrison usually freaks common/known songs. Personally I think it's the Muppet Show theme.

    Also, who 'members this thread?

She too fine, but I had to stop following her on Twitter because she talked about God too much and posted pictures of herself dressing like an asshole / Jermaine Dupri / Bret Michaels. She got a tramp stamp of her name in hangul, too. :*(

I'm gonna have to peep that sci-fi R&B though.

I can barely even wrap my mind around this. Amerie dressing like Bret Michaels? The fuck?

She should have learned to speak Korean fluently and moved to Seoul full time. She may have still had a career in K-POP.

It was a while back. I tried looking through her Twitter pix for them, but couldn't descend that far back. I think she looks great when she's been styled for a shoot, but these pictures were her left to her devices. She had some bedazzled headband, torn up, faded jeans, tinted gradient aviators, with a drapey vest top thing. A lot of effort put into looking like a grade A corn-ball. Keep it simple, stupid.

This used to be my desktop for a while:
