Jumpers (sweaters) had big scally cred (Liverpool football fans) in the early 80s. They would travel to Italy for away matches in Milan etc and come back with the five-finger-discounted brands which you couldn't get locally like Cerrutti 1881, Sergio Tacchini and Kappa.
The UK brands like Lyle & Scott and Pringle did well off this trend and with pint-sized TV comedian Ronnie Corbett rocking the golf gear, the Argyle was a strong look. I had a few but wore them through.
I can remember rocking them with a Pierre Cardin polo and faux-fur coat, with cut-off-at-the-knee jeans (a la Schwarzenegger) and a buzz cut.
He lived in my East Lothian village in the late 80's and was a complete cretin of a man. He would drive about in his Rolls Royce with a kids booster seat so he could see out the windscreen like he was lord of the manor.
The psycho CCS Casuals at Easter Road loved a Lyle and Scott or Pringle tartan jumper around about the same time.
Yeah I heard the same about that Ronnie, he used to ask the golf clubs he played at to clear the 19th hole of riff raff so him and his cronies could feel good about themselves.
If he'd tried that at our local he wouldn't have made it to the first tee.

His house was beside championship links course Muirfield where he was a member.
Perfect for his personality, as far as I know they still don't even allow women members or women in the clubhouse.
Shit you’re right. Who was the guy in mannequin?
His name was Hollywood. Had to look it up.
