Only found this one out only a couple of months back:
Have known this one for a few years now, but I'm still amazed by it:
Oh yeah, this one too:

I remember learning "I Believe In Miracles" was a cover here.
The OG was Mark Capanni.
I'd post that too, but it was dog muck IIRC.

"MO What Hi-Rise did was better than the original by the Jackson Sisters."
I was pissed off to find Toploader's Dancing In The Moonlight was a cover.
I thought this mob of ugly urchins had stumbled on a piece of private mind garden goodness, but sadly no.
Only found out about this a couple years back. I like both versions equally.
Sorta kinda
Also, i just came across that same PhD record the other day as well.
Thanks.
I knew this was a cover because of the story of Otis not wanting to cover an old big band song, but when he heard what Al Jackson was going to do got into it.
I'm obsessed with checking writer credits, so if I like a song enough to own it I am likely to know where it came from.
Hey,

"This Masquerade"
"Strawberry Letter 23"

I was totally stunned after approximately 30 years to realize that Catch The Beat was a version of Heartbeat.
Doh!Leon Russel also wrote the great Song For You, that Donny Hathaway (and many others) covers.
I found this out awhile ago but I never knew for years. Same with tainted love.
Btw, had my mind blown by the Happy Mondays and Otis revelations.
