Presidential Debate

This meads it's own thread, so I only have to go one place to see all your heads explode. I'll start things off. That wasn't a debate as much as it was Mitt Romney taking Obama fo a cross-country drive, strapped to the roof of his car. Even Bill Maher said, "Romney was just one minute away from holding Obama down and cutting his hair."

I liked his explanation of generating more tax revenue by lowering taxes and increasing the number of people taxed.
Post pix or it didn't happen
That's what I thought, too. They both just stood up there and delivered talking points that have been heard plenty of times before and that are aimed at their respective bases. It was way unconvincing all the way through.
Mitt sure did lie a lot, though, even for a politician in a debate.
To a certain extent the more left-leaning media was also overcompensating for piling on Romney during the last several months -- and for good reason, Romney *was* bad -- and it was a perfect storm of Romney scoring some good points for the first time in a while and him getting extra credit on MSNBC and elsewhere, just so they could say, "See, we're fair to the challenger."
With a month left before the election, I wonder, too, if Obama's camp wasn't ceding the debate on the crude grounds of wanting to hit a low point now rather than later. Obama has obviously held his polling since the convention and it'd be tough to take that lead all the way until November without a few bumps in the road. All of this may make no sense whatsoever -- I had a lot to drink last night.
You know as well as anyone that these "Un-scripted" scripted debates are not really debates...just a chance for both sides to say the same things they have been saying all election. It's not really a debate...the moderator effectively dealt the death blow to this type of debate with his incompetence. Hopefully this car wreck of a debate will perpetuate a change in style of how these things are structured. Funny how people who think these debates are game changers when the candidate for the biggest chance to shit on themselves emerges with a clean pair of underpants that it is considered a significant victory. The bar for success is ridiculously low if all it takes to win is not getting your own fecal excretion all over yourself.
Oh. I think I get it now. These debates aren't really debates, so when Romney won, he didn't really win. Thanks for totally clearing that up.
All I said was it wasn't a game changer...he won. If Obama won it wouldn't have made a difference Show me where I have said these debates are important and make all the difference. I personally believe these debates are crappy and have been for awhile. Be proud of your candidate, he won. But at the same time, big deal.

right guys?
This man has a future in politics!
A bigger lie than Obama saying that Obamacare was "a bipartisan idea. In fact, it was a Republican idea." Because that was a pretty big one.
Wasn't it a Dole idea? Wasn't Dole a Republican?
If you're talking about mandates it was Chafee not Dole. But I don't limit the success of that great piece of bipartisan statesmanship to just the mandate. Its the elegant simplicity of the two thousand pages of legislative doublespeak that is its true accomplishment. So I guess its nice that Obama is sharing the credit for that. So generous.
Yes, Saba just lied about it. Clearly taking a page out of Rmoney's playbook. Saba also wants to take a page out of Pizza the Cain's playbook and limit all legislation to 6 pages or less.
And cooked up by the Heritage Foundation, which now is officially obliged to call its own work "socialist."
Anyway, I figure there were only two ways for this debate to have been a serious game changer:
Romney saying, "The president is a ni-"*CLANG*
Obama saying, "Kill all the white people--but vote for me first!"
I can't even remember the last time a presidential debate really changed the complexion of a race. Anybody?
LOL...."Nobody calls it Romneycare it was Ted Kennedy who came up with it"
"Gore Blames Altitude for Obama's Debate Woes"
He did a very good job of promising that he can deliver everything to everyone without any sacrifice (or providing any details), while offering critique of the guy who honestly says you can't have it all. How does Obama argue with someone who has no record or a plan (that he will stand by)? Obama would have pleased liberals if he made personal attacks on Romney (the 47%/Bain/Flip-flopper/corporate shill) but that was clearly not his strategy. He would rather look good and lose, as Billy Hoyle once said, but in this case, he might be right. Let's see how this plays out over the next week when the Obama camp calls for Romney to back up his claims.
There are a lot of questions Obama could have hit Romney with that would have easily knocked him off balance, but didn't ask.
I'm hoping Obama is playing a long game strategy, and is saving these questions til later in the debating process.
PS... ITS MY 2000th POAST! Mix to follow soon.
How much of "Romneycare" did Ted Kennedy come up with?
b/w
It's painfully obvious that "Chuckles" is your default when you're on the defensive.
Ridiculous, you can't be serious. Did you think he was lying when he started talking about regulating trade with China, "if and when they cheat?"
I was talking about taxes, jobs, health care, Medicare...you know, those things.
fixed
These were my thoughts exactly.
I was honestly surprised when I read everywhere how good Romney supposedly did. I guess if you believed him everything he said then he did ok but doesn't this guy radiate less integrity and respectability than a proverbial used car (or snake oil) salesman?
Obama was purposely soft on him so Mitt's going to be even more flabbergasted when Obama's eventually wiping the floor with him. Which might happen at a point when Romney won't have time to recover or retaliate. At least I hope so for the sheer sake of entertainment.
Jebus, that's stupid.
