When I saw Third Bass in like 91 they had the two finest female back-up dancers...dudes were climbing over each other at the end to kick it to them before they left the stage...

Big Daddy Kane - Scoob and Scrap

Big Daddy Kane was quite the dancer himself. I have him on video somewhere busting some moves at the 1989 DMC world finals after a rendition of 'Raw'. He had to take his gold chain off first though which was disappointing.

What about the S1Ws though? Those guys had moves.

I think the back up dancer craze was dope. I loved it then, I love it now.

Some friends of mine had a throwback group recently (that just broke up). I was always hollerin "Get some back up dancers!". But they never did.

It is interesting to think that now if rap dudes had MALE back up dancers they would get made fun of like no other.

S1s definitely had "moves". And Scoob and Scrap could rap better than Tupac.

OK FOLLS, Here we go! Plaese to add on to the list:

Big Daddy Kane - Scoob and Scrap
MC Hammer - Oaktown 357, Ho Frat Ho, etc.
Chubb Rock - Hot Dog and the A.T.E.E.M.
    YZ - Zhiggy
EPMD - Steezo (put out the best ever album by a former back up dancer)

ha, OK... but I'm not the only one out there who thinks Tupac was a far better acteur than rappeur. No (big) diss intended.

I liked Tupac. "I Get Around" was one of my favorite songs when it came out. still is actually. That whole album was good. I can't think of anything Scoob or Scrap did that set the club off like that song.

Puffy used to be dancing in lots of music videos.

He was also in a Fine Young Cannibals video ('Not The Man I Used To Be' i think).

  • i'll need to check with paychips, but wasnt saafir a back up dancer with glow in the dark shoes? was they clear too?

    Ladies wise, you had:

    Al and Kika
    Leslie "Big Les" Segar
    Jossie Harris
    Judette

There was one lady who I really thought was hot but never got her name. She was in the videos for Kid 'N Play's "Do This My Way" and "Gittin' Funky", and I believe she was in Slick Rick's "Children's Story".

Kid N Play were some dancin' fools! They did not need the back up dancers.

Whoa, time out. Is that a Chrysalis logo on the bottom left? When did they come out with the album?

De La Soul - China and Jett

I still have a tape of various De La stuff, and I have the segment when they were on The Arsenio Hall Show, and Maseo mixed up the instrumentals a bit. Anyway, if that was China and Jett dancing with them, it looked fucked up, as if it was some instructional tape. Half of the time they looked as if one was saying to the other "watch as I move... my... arm... like... this".
