Just read the first page of that book. Love the subjective and radical style this is written in. The author has a kindred spirt to our very own Frank. I can enjoy blustering like this a lot. A great read!

After browsing this book I come to the conclusion that this is not what I`m looking for. Nevertheless it is a good read and I bought it on amazon.
It gives a good overview but it doesn`t delve too deep into the subject. It is about the obvious releases and bands like Neu!, Faust, Tangerine Dream, Can, Amon D????l, Kraftwerk.
It`s like reading a book about James Brown, Sly Stone, Funkadelic & Isaac Hayes when you`re interested in indie funk 45s
I need something about the private & small indie label releases.
Something like Peter Wermerlinger`s Funk Lexikon just for Krautrock.
    Does something like this exist?

"crack in the cosmic egg" which is compiled by the brothers who run the uk's best record shop, ultiuma thule in leicester, and front the avant garde band alto stratus.

These I know very little about and would like know where to start with:
    Rockabilly
    Lounge
    Psych

These I have a fair idea about, but I'd like to explore much deeper
    UK Funky/Dubstep
    Jazz
    Balearic

  • I'm really interested in learning more about House music.. I swear i've heard some really groovy, non repetitive melodic vibed out house music before but I have no idea where to start in terms of producers, sub genre's, labels, etc.?

  • Stark Reality

I've listened to Hoagy Carmichael???s Music Shop and usually appreciate a holy grail in the same way most people do, but I don't get what collectros are wanking about here.

It sounds okay, but I don't quite see what inspires such massive hype about it.

I wish I knew more about House and Techno music.

Specifically the 90s underground Chicago and Detroit deep house, techno, and some of the New York club classics...

  • Little dude status revealed, but I'd like to know more about Brazilian music. Being a drummer, I know the rhythms inside and out but I don't even know where to start with essential listening (Verocai, Jobim, and Azymuth aside).

I've been trying to get a general overview and understanding of jazz the last couple of years, but the sheer span of time, styles, and recordings make it a slow and rather daunting task. But I figure I have several decades to go, so no need to rush.

This is exactly what I`m looking for. It is a shame that the book goes for 300???. I`ll ceratinly buy the cd, though.

I feel you. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Krautrock-Vol-2/release/1255262 -maybe a few groups on there

I'd like some deep reggae knowledge beyond Perry, Pablo and the like.
20th century classical past Glass and Schoenberg.
Rare comedy, spoken word, poetry albums.

Cope has a new book centered on Detroit rock? Anyone picked it up yet?

Rockabilly/Country. I'm sure I have left some nice titles behind in the past.

Schlager and Volksmusik, the crusties are shelling out big money on some titles.
