Fuentes, Tamayo, Tico, Fania, GCP, etc

I don't know, it's probably RCA or some other label like that really though.

  • Def Jam
    Sal Soul
    Polydor/King
    Columbia
    Atlantic

  • #1 would have to be Columbia. It is, after all, the biggest record company in the world, and there isn't a genre of music they haven't touched at some point. Whatever phase I was going through, Columbia and its' zillion subsidiaries had a record that was up my alley.

#2: Atlantic. They had a powerhouse R&B stable in the fifties, sixties and early seventies that cannot be denied, plus a few worthy white rockers as well. I file about half of my singles by label; if I'm DJing a soul set and don't want to spend too much time picking out records, I usually head straight for the Atlantic files.

It would be either the Checkers of the CHESS/CADET/CHECKER label or the BLACK AND ORANGE of IMPULSE.
