    Amazed no one's brought up "The Wire" yet as the alternative/antidote to the umpteeth rehashing of "Godfather".

    I ride for "Goodfellas." "Casino" was like "Goodfellas" on a bender. Watchable in its own way (as was "Departed" even though I didn't think it was that great) but needed a crap load of editing to bring it under control.

    But Batmon - ever since the advent of Hollywood, the gangster has been the defining Horatio Alger anti-hero. That shit is never going away, regardless of the ethnicity cast.
