Goodfellas

There's a terrific piece about the making of Goodfellas on GQ.com that's loaded with fascinating trivia, most of which I certainly didn't know - things like how Tom Cruise and Madonna were briefly under consideration for the roles of Henry & Karen Hill, and how John Malkovich nearly played Jimmy The Gent. Good to read the stories of some of the crew and peripheral cast members, too.
There's been a few of these pieces recently, what with it being 20 years since the movie came out, but this is one of the more readable examples. Definitely worth a few minutes of your time.

that being said ...... casino > goodfellas.
Tripping...
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ... no.
Yeah. I like Casino, but it's not even close.
Every time Goodfellas is on I can't resist watching at least a few minutes of it.
I wouldn't miss Casino if I never saw it again.
Heh. There's a kind of timelessness in a well-told mob drama that's true of all manner of great stories going back to the time of the ancient Greeks - hubris, tragic heroes, that kind of shit. I dunno that there's anything idiomatically Caucasoid about those things. Also, as far as that article is concerned, it feeds into my fascination with the scores of little details and micro-stories that go into making up the bigger picture. I've seen Goodfellas dozens of times now, to that profoundly irritating point where I can recite huge passages of dialogue from it, so anything which enriches that experience - such as why Scorsese chose a song by uber-hippy Donovan to soundtrack the scene where Billy Batts gets seven shades of shite kicked out of him - is all good as far as I'm concerned.
30 years of the same muthafuckin thang hasnt made u bored?
Goodfellas is excellent.
But u cats come on here and circlejerk to the same Italian Gangsta motif like its a new girlfriend.
Its totally tired. Weve gotten it in Hip Hop, HBO, and Hollywood. and yall still crave for more?
Sopranos and them. I dont understand the overdose.
Its a tired trope and yall( yes here on SS) wax poetic on that new HBO show like its some new shit.
Graduate PLEEZ.
I'd rather see some Chinese/Jewish Gangster shit than some overwashed DeNiro/Spike Lee Brooklyn/Wife beater nonsense.
Doc u my nigga, and ill give u a pass cause yo in the UK, but u too old too be still suckin the Godfather.

american chinese, yes. hk gangsters beeeen run into the ground. jewish gangster...uh, billy bathgate? can't really think of any recent jewish gangster flicks other than that one.
I feel like i makes cats think there is some secret society that they aint a part of and regular fat wife dudes just fetish that shit to death.
Its so tired....IMO.
The Sopranos was that "new" spin on it. "Oh they're regular like me and you" and cats ATE IT UP.
Im a Comic book fag. Its the new "mythology". Dudes have been mesmorized by this shit.
"Yeah, Steve Buschemi is a deep dude and now he lending his talents to a Scor-Lazy project.....Im in.
( re: Batmon)
lest we forget the shoes. oh the shoes.
Yup and U still rep Italian Gangsta Shit?
Thief by Micheal Mann is my shit w/out the Godfather overtones.
all joking aside..... are you drunk right now?
Yes- dude is great, but can yall stop at this point?
Yes im drunk. But to see anothet 5 pager on SS at this point on a 30 year trope is str8 silliness.
Graduate.
"Hey guys did u see that new GANGSTER TV show.....................?"
Feel free to chastize.........Ill be dat dude.
Don't get me wrong, I recognise that it's been done and done and done. But for all of that, the story of the mob is one of the stories of America. And, for better or worse, America's fascination with itself and its comparatively brief history has traditionally been played out on screen, big and small. I don't see any possibility of that changing any time soon, at least not until audiences get bored with the self-mythologising aspect of it.
Who is gonna shift our GANGSTA taste past the ITALIAN American steez.
Their mythology is intertwined w/ other "mafias".
I grew up up w/ that shit. I NEED another perspective.
Mexican shit/Black shit(Denzel bitches?),Asian, Jewish...........(dont tellme that that hasnt been exhausted).
Cmon fellas
so make it yourself. i know...... GANXTA ROBOTS 2048! enlisting the voice talents of DL hughley as the identity crisis programmed factory drone experiencing the struggle between his own aspirations and the family business. and katt williams as the childhood friend that keeps exacerbating otherwise calmed situations. and morgan freeman as the wise old typewriter.
Id rather see Jeffrey Canada's Fundraising Gangstarr steez w/ the local gov'ment and private funding(dramatized).
Is Mad Men Gangster shit? Or some Moulin Rouge/"Era" specific costume party?
And then there is this.
i can't believe a bunch of dudes write thousands of words on old R&B music on a msg board on the internet, its so 1999, GET OVER IT CAUCAZOIDS hey, stop reading superhero stories, that shit is so 1970s. get over it caucazoids and blackazoids!!! this retarded style can be adapted to insult anyone discussing any topic at length.
ps. a good show is a good show, and Boardwalk Empire is a good show.
Thats funny.
