"The Thing", "Big Trouble In Little China", "They Live".
dude.
duuuuuuuuuuuuude.

was just talking about John Carpenter at lunch today. His movies rule. Once you've seen them, watch the Kurt Russell movies with the commentary, he's hilarious.
Finally peeped Rosemary's Baby last night. Not scary, but entertaining.
^^^ Obvs doesn't have kids
Seriously though, the ending of that film is truly the most frightening of all - the motherly instinct to want to nurture the spawn of the devil?
It was so well done. Not too heavy-handed or cartoony.
I think her growing isolation and panic/fear about not being able to get any help was what has always struck me. The doctor's office and then her very pregnant self in the phone booth...oh gosh.
I recently saw Killer Joe. It was what it was. Where did Gina Gershon go in her mind for that scene I wonder.

Sensational but interesting (and unique). I saw that at TIFF... Gina and others were at the screening but I can't remember much of anything that was said. See 1:55 here - she goes into what it was like filming that scene:
I've probably plugged this here before, but Bug is the other Friedkin/Letts collabo and it totally rocks my world.
i'm certain i didn't give it the watch it deserved however many years ago i saw it for the first time, but rewatching all of the hitchcocks' over the last month has vaulted this little number into the top 3:
i love hitch. this is my version of the canon, in chronological order:
39 steps/jamaica inn/lifeboat
shadow of a doubt/notorious/rope/man who knew too much
strangers on a train/dial m for murder
rear window/to catch a thief
vertigo/north by northwest/psycho/the birds
frenzy
confessions: i still haven't seen family plot. i can't wait. but i'm saving it until i'm older.
i also haven't seen that frontline series. anyone?
i mean, who else has storylines like this (via IMDB):
A psychotic socialite confronts a pro tennis star with a theory on how two complete strangers can get away with murder...a theory that he plans to implement.
!!
bergman and kelly are total dames. like, top 10 all-time. was never as hot on tippi or janet.

Rebecca belongs in my top 10, although it's been a while since I've seen it.
I think Rope gets too much love for the single take thing but I think the story is a little weak.
my top 3, off the top of my head:
Vertigo
Psycho
Strangers on a Train
More like a four-way tie between those three and Rear Window though.

I have not seen Jamaica Inn, Frenzy and Family Plot. Am I missing much?
I second Rope being over rated. Only saw it once, restored print in a theater. I thought the acting was stiff.
If it were a play with live actors might be amazing, but does not translate to film that well for me.
I do appreciated that he was experimenting.
Charade is the best non-Hitchcock Hitchcock film I can think of.

yeah, i should have added rebecca. joan fontaine is under-rated.

Great movie right there. I've only seen it once, so thanks for reminding me that it's time for a re-watch.
so spill the beans on your ranking. this is very important.
n/nw
rope - rear window
to catch a thief
I can totally understand that. rear window has been at the top of my list before too.
maybe it's a little too REAL for me right now.
my rankings are my favorite based on my taste right NOW. any list i make regarding movies and music can be incredibly mercurial.

I think it's one very funny movie.
definitely a black comedy.
Rebecca belongs in my top 10, although it's been a while since I've seen it.

When you see the remake, you realise how good the OG was. The split-screen. The cars. The lack of Rene Russo's tits.
Weird one. I enjoyed it.
Shit, in 20+ years, VI is the only other person (besides my brother) I know who has seen this.
Ending is EPIC.
Stabbing someone straight through the head is hard.
Don't forget the beautifully awful classic...
yeah, i should have added rebecca. joan fontaine is under-rated.
i think the tension in rope is dope.
Jamaica Inn is great for something that old. It's like a pirate movie.
Frenzy is about as new wave as he got. I saw it as a kid and thought it was pretty creepy.
Nice trailer:
I need to re-watch Charade. Haven't seen in it ages.
[ECHO] IN FULL HD [/ECHO]
Yeah, I love that one.
Wow..it's 8:19am and I've already got my Monday night all figured out.

Rear Window is the undisputed #1 in my mind.
Top 5 I'd say:
Rear Window
Frenzy (I just love this film)
North by Northwest
Dial M for Murder
The 39 Steps
Rope is definitely up there. You should all check out Lifeboat if you havent seen it, very underrated Hitch movie
I remember liking, but all I can remember now is the Directors appearance in the film.
Has any other director attempted a single set film?
