After one dinner listen, Jamal's Awakenings has replaced Eastern Sounds for my vaforite dinner jazz.I'm talking somehting you put on while eating pasta and drinking a glass of wine, or smoking half a J or having a cig or two - whatever it is you gots to do to come down.

    dinner jazz for me is definitely joints that i can play when at the table with my folks and my ma wont say "turn that fucking down"

    Last night Wifey and I listened to Jackie McLean-Jackie's Bag LP while eating spaghetti.

    Other favorites during the dinner hour:

    LOTS of Bossa Nova/Brasilian joints - Jobim, Marcos Valle, Jorge Ben, Azymuth, Gilberto, Gal Costa, Etc..

    Miles - Sketches of Spain

    Ahmad Jamal - The Awakening LP, 73 LP

    Lots of 70s Japanese joints as well

    a little up-beat for dinner no? I'm about the real mellow shit like the bossa, jazz that's not hard bop. Miles davis Skethes of Spain, Classical, Folk mellow sounds to help you digest and keep you at the table a little longer (for this same reason I preffer CD's for the dinner music, no pain in the ass record fliping while I'm trying to eat and conversate)

    i'd have to say that dinner preparation goes to Joe Henderson - Blue Note era and Hank Mobley. Not to mention Jackie McLean, Ike Quebec, Sonny Criss- Sonny's Dream... etc.
