    30 MIL FOR ANDY CARROLL?

I thought the statement that 'there is no value in the transfer market' was laughable right?

    Barely worth half that price.
Michael Ricketts didn't scare anyone off one season wonders??
I'll be relieved if Liverpool get him ahead of Tottenham..

I don't believe anyone offered that kind of money - bound to be his agent talking up the interest so that if nothing else, he can negotiate for a bigger contract next time it's on the table.

Carroll for 30 million is hilarious though I did see that Ireland is going to Newcastle on loan for the rest of the season and not sure how many spare rooms Nolan has at his house.

I'd assumed that Adam was going to be the stand out one season wonder for this year who gets bought for a load of money only to warm a bench but it looks like we're building up quite a short list.

[strike]Just heard a transfer rumour that Darren Fletcher is going to Stoke for 2.3 million.[/strike]

    Sorry, that's obviously rubbish.

There's no way Stoke would pay that much for Fletcher.

    b/w

BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty on Twitter: "Scenario unfolding is once Torres signs for Chelsea, Liverpool will close in on Carroll asking price. ??35m will be gamble by Liverpool owners."

If Liverpoo really spend ??35 million on Carroll, they deserve to get relegated. That's madness. They could have a couple of Darren Bents for that money.

Apparently this offer has been accepted. Mike Ashley isn't as dumb as he looks then?

Well, if you get 50 for Torres, you'll be left with some change to bolster the squad, but the price your paying for Carroll feels like a ransom on account of them knowing that you're selling to Chelski for petro-millions.

  • Liverpool trying to ease Torres departure by signing Carroll.
Totally aimed at pacifying the fans.

    35 million is crazy money.

  • David Villa 34m.
    Andy Carroll 35m.

  • JuniorJunior 4,853 Posts
Using Wikipedia's helpful inflation adjustment on most expensive transfers that would make Carroll the joint 8th most expensive player of all time.

I don't know what to say to that really, words fail me.

At least Man Utd can feel vindicated about every transfer they ever made.

So is Kevin Nolan worth 25m now?

I'd dearly love to shoot Roman Abramovich in the head right now.

I don't think the entire Arsenal squad cost us ??35 million, and ironically, the most expensive one on our books (IIRC) right now is playing worse than Bendtner. Or Almunia. Or the slap-head French defender Cygan we used to have. Or Silvestre when he was trying to mark his man, lost sight of him and the ball, and a speculative punt upfield landed square on the top of his head. Or Adebayor when he sulked for a whole season - at least he gave Bendtner a smack in the mush, which at least ensured he was on his way out the door.

??35 million on Andy Carroll isn't going to get Liverpool back in the top 4 this season.

There, to be thrown back in my face come the end of the season. Thank me later Doc.

See Adebayor's debut for Madrid last night? Losing 1-0 to Osasuna. GOOD TIMES.

Bonus points for the crowd throwing another football on the pitch whilst Real Madrid were attacking.

Everytime he gets sold on to another club, only to pout and under-achieve, I praise the Lord that Wenger sold him and not Bendtner. That is, until Bendtner misses 5 open-goal opportunities in the space of twenty minutes or something daft like that. But Bendtner has started to impress; it could be that he's noticed Arshaving seems to be 'doing an Adebayor' at the mo, and has realised this is his best chance of breaking into the first team, and that making statements to the press about how you're-the-best-in-the-world won't do it, nor will wearing pink boots to wind-up your stroppy French team capitain.

As rewarding as it is to see Wenger keep the faith with his home grown kids, the arm-chair manager in me does wonder what it would feel like to see Wenger strap some on, and wop 80 big 'uns out onto the table and demand Messi or some such world class superstar. Or just somebody that bangs in goals and doesn't look for the assist every time they get into the box.

Some more maths: Andy Carroll = Mesut Ozil + Sami Khedira + Rafael Van der Vaart; Nando Torres = Andy Carroll + Didier Drogba

they've lost all hope of winning la liga
and we will smash them in copa del rey and el classico 2
that villa carroll comparison is hilarious especially if you add his ''off-colour'' personality to the mix
a couple of header goals for 35million okay
suarez will cost a lot as well
ajax lost one of their best homegrown dudes to AC
i hate to say it but AC Milan's moves this summer where brilliant
then now to suppress their injuries brilliant again
thank god for that berlusconi money
he may lose the presidency but he will win the studetto

Carroll injured in six-hour, 30 Jagerbomb bender - Exclusive

Published 23:00 07/01/11 By Jeremy Armstrong

England soccer star Andy Carroll was left in agony after a drunken fall from a casino bar stool at 5am, it was claimed yesterday.

Carroll, 22, had just ordered 30 ???Jagerbombs??? ??? a potent mix of spirit Jagermeister and Red Bull energy drink ??? for himself and 15 pals.

Next day the ??20million striker???s club, Newcastle United, announced that a thigh injury would rule him out of at least three games.

The Geordie ??? who picked up an injury in United???s match against Spurs on December 28 ??? was on a six-hour bender until 6.30am on December 30 at Aspers Casino in Newcastle.

As well as FOUR Jagerbombs, 6ft 4in Carroll downed TWO pints of Fosters and around SIX bottles of Peroni.

Witnesses saw him slump down with his head in his hands after the Jagerbombs and one Peroni. Then all of a sudden he perked up, alert, ???like a meerkat???.

He stood up on the leg rest of the stool which tipped over. He then smashed against the floor of the bar area and was clutching his leg, shouting out in pain.

But his mates stood around laughing as Carroll lay in agony.

Shortly afterwards his female companion was seen massaging his leg at the roulette table ??? where he fell off another stool.

Then he limped off to a private function room, where he downed five more Peronis and sang on the karaoke machine before finally leaving alone at 6.30am. The following day, United boss Alan Pardew told journalists about an injury.

Carroll apparently reported his injury after the Spurs game. But it was decided not to make that injury public until it had been properly assessed.

That assessment was done on December 29, before Carroll went to the casino. The club doctor has examined Carroll regularly since then and a source close to the player said the doctor would dispute the injury being made worse. But gambler Simon Cook, 28, who witnessed the second fall in Aspers, said: ???I could not believe his behaviour. He was absolutely hammered.

???When I went back to work my mates were telling me how he was going to sit out three games because of an injury. I couldn???t believe it. I knew how it really happened.???

Carroll, who has just signed a new, ??27,000-a-week, five-year contract, has been a regular at Aspers this season.

Carroll was with United captain Kevin Nolan at Aspers after the Toon???s 5-1 win over Sunderland in November.

He went on another huge bender on December 7 ??? the day after manager Chris Hughton was sacked.

Carroll is currently on a ???mid season??? break in Dubai and due back this week. He will take a fitness test on Thursday to see if he will be fit for next weekend???s match against Sunderland.

Newcastle United declined to comment on the incident last night.

But what happened is that they actually care about playing for AC
and they set each other up
then they got VanBommel (i despise him but he will sure up their midfield/back) and Emanuelson (ajax)
great singings before champions league van bommel played against barca/spain last summer
so they lead serie A by a lot have a better fighting chance in champions
will probably reproduce the standings in la coppa italia and ibrahi-o-bitch will try to show up Pep guardiola

    that VDV,Ozil,Kedira=Carrol is :melt:

That's cool if they can coax some heart from those players, Van Bommel loves to foul, he won't need encouraging, and yes, good investments if they pay-off in the Champs League.

Now some of the media are saying Carroll deal is off, some are saying it's back on. :face_melt: It's too much drama-dy for a Monday.

There's something very dodgy about the fact that SkySports are the main source/conduit for a lot of transfer rumours and they include the betting odds, that their setting, as indicators of possible movement.

Liverpool have agreed a fee for Carroll - according to their website.

two best #tweets of the day (paraphrasing).

#Liverpool are like a person who just won the lottery and then went out and spent all the winnings on scratch-off games.

#Torres Deal Off - As John Terry and Torres' wife cannot agree to personal terms.

We were mugged today. Utterly ridiculous, an absolute clusterfuck. We've sold our star striker, and immediately spent ??35m - ??1m more than Barca paid for David Villa - on the Geordie Duncan Ferguson, a player who busticates himself falling off barstools during Jagerbomb benders and who's barely played half a season in the Premiership. We're going to have to win the Europa League and finish in the top four before this even begins to look like a good idea.
