Friday evening...Thank God it's the weekend... whata crazy week. Though as luck would have it rain shut down my job on Tuesday, so I busted up to Montreal and scooped some wax. The Doris Svenson is the re-ish in the bunch.
uh . . . those are some nice records. Courvasier up for them Montreal finds. All I ever found there was a fistfight outside fou founnes electrique. And Holmes your spread just got radder as you scrolled down. Toast to your records too, but quick, cuz you gotta change the 45.
That Michigan & Smiley song is so ill (pun intended)
It is also the anthem of my favorite sub-genre of reggae: puritanical warnings to women that wearing slacks instead of skirts will force Jah to strike them down with elephantitis!
"Back then all I had was a nice apartment, some nice clothes, a fast car and a hi-fi . . ." says the dude as he leads me to the stack of records on his porch.
I can picture him in his flair. Especially after seeing his vinyl.
Nice day for sales. Early on enough rain to scare off the wanna-bes. I biked Eureka & then drove to a few far-reaching ones (lazy). Saw my hi-fi guy taking some serious components ourt of an estate sale.
And bought some records from some fans of 'percussion' in the title of records.
There is a topic -- how many "percussion" records don't thump at all?
And the 45 is: "Good advice from Betty Furness about your new Westinghouse Laundromat."

That Common Pleas is a fantastic 45. Funk on top, ballad on the bottom.
yeah, nice, I got it mainly to make the postage worthwhile with a few others from the same seller, actually reading about it on f16c made me decide to take a chance. glad i did now. Do you know if it is the same Crimson label as Soul Survivors etc?

It is the same label. I have a vague recollection of having seen a stock copy at some point.
In Dakar right now - managed to dig up ten records so far: 4 orchstre bawobab lps (Inc 'kelen ati len'!) 1 matata 45 1 ozzidi lp 1 ernesto djedje lp 1 bembeye jazz lp And 2 other sylaphone lps with tracks from bembeye and balla. Otherwise records pretty hard to find here. City is a bit oppressive, but was out on isle goree today: super nice.
Those Little Joe Y La Familia LP's (both, but mostly the top right) will set my WHOLE FAMILY off at the drop of a needle. I'm talking dancing tias, singing tios, the whole nine enchilada. I heard that more than anything growing up. That record damn near raised me!
Nice pulls, J****n. Let me know if you want to trade that La Familia...Finally LP.
Went to the Newark record show and it was utterly dismal at best. I was getting discouraged then a seeler came in last minute-style and I found this for $1 in mint condition:

Most from Edouardo. As crazy as he is, he's always treated me well and is happy to take my unwanted wax as collateral.
