My metal 45 box containing about 300 soul, garage, Japanese, latin, French, UK, and other 60s-70s records was stolen out of my car near Sunset & Alvarado last night. If you work at a record store or other location where someone might try to get rid of these, please be on the lookout. These are the most important records in my collection and I will pay a reward for their return. I can provide a partial list for identification purposes. Thanks.-Mark "Soulmarcosa" Weddingtondjmarco@solidsoundsystem.com

good luck
LA heads get to work...
On it......terrible news, Marco.
Be sure to check out craigslist just in case they show up on there.
I would hire tex cobb to track them down.
I'll say a prayer to the 45 gods for their safe return
good luck man.
300 45s is a lot!
Next time, offer Belson a couple GBP to stand guard at your car and/or DJ booth. He's a theft deterrent if I ever saw one!
try and think outside of stores that specialise in collectable records. It's save to guess that they checked what's in the box and before lugging away something heavy like that so they must have had some kind of an idea as to where to flip them but maybe they don't even know any record stores and tried a pawn shop first. Maybe even a couple after having been turned down. maybe take another box of records and act like you're trying to sell them at several places around the scene of the crime. You might hear "oh, we don't buy shit like that, just yesterday there was this other dude trying to sell some weird old records like that". Do even crackheads who break into cars drive their own cars in LA? I hope not, so try and walk circles from where it happened and try to sell a box of records. If you just ask if someone had tried to sell records, you might not get good answers. The place that bought them might not even admitt to it.
Maybe a dumb idea but I'd even try dumb shit to try and get those records back.
I'm down to let some doubles go.
but folks come in from time to time still trying to sell them so i'll keep my eyes and ears open.
Believe me man, I'd do all that stuff if I had the time - I was thinking of the exact same things. Odds are that the thief knows nothing about records and they're gonna get dumped somewhere that has nothing to do with vinyl, whether a pawn shop or a dumpster. But I've got a dayjob so I had to limit my efforts this morning to filing a police report, emailing/calling all the local record stores, texting DJ friends and posting Myspace bulletins. Fingers crossed.
A painful example of why Mark's records probably won't wind up in a pawn or record shop:

I really hope they turn up, nobody deserves to go through this. Unfortunately it seems to happen too many times.
Can't yo take a few days off? Not even if you explain the situation to your boss?
Or do you have jobless friends there who could help you out?
300 pieces... man...
Chances are thye're getting dumped not too far from the scene, fast and for little money so in order to recover them, time would be the key. I'd definitely take two or three days off. Can't you already feel the symptoms of the swine flu creeping up on you? I don't think it's fair to put your coworkers at risk like that.
Good luck...
Best of luck, Mark.
i reposted your message elsewhere.
Thanks to my long lost acquaintance, new co-DJ, and all-around bro Jason "High Society" Moore (pictured above with yours truly).....
MY RECORDS HAVE BEEN FOUND!
ORALE!!!! BALLE BALLE!!! SHAVA SHAVA!!! AND F*ck YES!!!!
Turns out that some crustypunk lowlife brought them to Amoeba today (where Jason works) and they were duly intercepted on my behalf. THANKS A MILLION J-MO!!!!
I also have to give a shout out to all of my friends - especially my new ones in LA and old ones on Soulstrut - who reposted bulletins, texted, called, consoled, gave advice and otherwise tried to help me track down my lost vinyl. It's times like these that you find out who's got your back, and it makes me feel blessed that I have some really great people in my new home who are looking out for me. Your generosity & concern will not be forgotten.
And should you want to hear any of these recovered gems, J-Mo and I will be spinning at El Chavo this coming Sunday!
Oh how I missed that silver box of records in this pic...
Did you have them in the trunk of your car? or in plain sight in the back seat?
I'm guessing this is gonna be very tough to recover though.
Reading your nerve-wracking story gave me feelings I never want to revisit. May this thread be burned and a Panamanian Women's Cricket Team thread arise in its place!
