Virgil Griffin and Rhythm Kings: "A Forgotten Lover"Despearte lyrics, tons of dead space, and jarring instrumentation, this tune should seriously come with a warning label telling depressed folks to keep away. So heavy the post office won't even ship it.

    This is heavy. I want.

  • As far as raw intensity goes, it's hard to top Timmy Shaw's "Thunder In My Heart" on BON in my opinion:

Not the deepest but one of the heaviest (and now we can spend 5 pages arguing over the differences b/t deep and heavy):

I got this 45 in the waxidermy xmas swap & don't think I paid much attention to this side. I'll have to remember to flip it over once & while.

One of my all time favorite 45s. I have a box of unplayed stock copies that I can't hardly give away, why don't people care

  • Definitely nice.

    A few favorites --

Tennessee Waltz is just I could listen to this on repeat all day.

A couple that are maybe a little bit out of left field, but do it for me nonetheless.

Deep stuff from 1960s Chicago, I love the lo-fi quality, the flip is faster & raw & also slays in that category too. I had stock of these on both the black & yellow labels a couple of years back & no one wanted them, I practically had to give them forcefully to people to get shot of them.

Kind of a juxtoposition to some people's brains to get around the concept "deep" Motown but this has been a fave of mine for years, I don't know if a Fantastic Four lead ever sounded this good for me before or after this 45, but he absolutely slays it here, I like the dirty guitar & string punctuations too.

Jimmy Tate "Please Come Back" is pretty good.
First song I thought of was Syl Johnson.

Toussant McCall - "Never Take The Place of You"

    and "im undecided"

  • The Incredibles "Standing Here Crying" is one of these tunes. It's so dark, I would almost label it gothic soul.
