I gotta throw Richard Berry's "Wild Berry" in there too.
not sure. i guess i was thinking about the entire drum solo. the break goes into the free drumming and then back to the break
Good question. I prob should have defined my terms more explicitly. It doesn't have to be a breakdown in the middle of a track, just open 4/4 drums at any point in a song.
The Niagara counts b/c it's a syncopated 4/4 rhythm almost throughout. So far I think thats the longest. The ones I mentioned above are at most 2.5-3 min long.
I'm surprised there aren't more references to live stuff.
Oh yeah, Bizzo, is that entire track all drums? I thought I remembered some piano and other jazz instrumentation on that.

Here are some that are moderately long to long:
-"Them Changes"-Ramsey Lewis.
-"Letha"-Charles Earland.
-"Tell Me How You Feel"-Lee Michaels.
-"Living it Up" 12"-Bell & James.

for all the beat makers out there...
do you find that you don't do as much with the loooong breaks as you would with a 2 bar break. I always felt somewhat burdened by the ones that go on for like a minute. It's like it's a shame not to use all the parts, but it's also a hassle to use all the parts. But then the 2 bar breaks you grab it all quick and usually end up doing more changes because of the limitations.
i forget but isnt it at least 1 min? and very nice too.
Also..I know it's a basic break, but I ride the Lee Michael break (great album anyway)
also, not a long break(but a worthy mention) is Andy Loore(Janko Nilovic) "Drummers Bell"
