Looks like he will be chief of staff, according to NYT. I don't really know much about him, is this a good look?

    All I really know about dude was that he had come out against Dean's 50 state strategy, which seems to have worked out pretty well, at least for Obama. Emanuel seems like a very centrist, DLC type, but I admittedly don't know that much about him....

    His brother is Ari Emmanuel...the agent that is the basis of the character Ari Gold on Entourage...

    Rahm is known to be pretty hard headed at times. He can def piss people off that oppose him.

    I am checking but his dad apparently was in Irgun and Rahm served in both the first Gulf War and I think the IDF, Israel Defense Forces. I love this look for no other reason that it will drive the buffoons of the net-left like Juan Cole bonkers. Take that Palestinian Studies professors. Obama's chief of staff is a former Israeli soldier.

    It's obvious your knowledge of the American political system is extensive. I would suspect that you have at least a PHD in Political Science, or a Law degree. You should consider writing at a academic level.

    I've never been particularly impressed by him ... or the DLC for that matter. He gets credit for the successful '06 congressional elections, but Bush really deserves the credit.

    He has advised colleagues not to appear on the popular television show The Colbert Report

    Obama's really gonna pick this guy ?

    I've never thought much of him as a visionary or strategist. But he's going to be the chief of staff, his job is to be a meticulous hardass. I think he'll be good at it.

    Didn't know that about the IDF, I think that's kind of a good look.

    Amen. He's not an ambassador or a diplomat. He is charged with running a tight ship, and executing Obama's plan. He is to be a trusted advisor, which means occasionally being a hatchet man.

    Why?

    So Obama doesn't have to. Look, he's the Rove of this operation, and really, I want someone in that position who is principled, a little ruthless, and ready to throw down.

    ANNNND... A friend whose parents have worked in Chi. politics and with the Obamas for years LOVE his tactics, and they've proven successful so far.

    politically hes pretty dlc-ish but yeah he knows his shit and tactically is a really bright guy, got a lot of credit for the 2006 election victories although i think dean's contributions to that were underratedb, 21b, 21i think this also serves as an olive branch to the clintons, showing hes not gonna be divisive within the party after the fact
