Congrats America. I got in from drinks last night just before the returns started coming in and decided I would be sensible and go to bed. Woke up suddenly at 4 this morning and thought I'd take a quick peek at how it was getting on - ended up sitting up for the next 3 and a half hours watching the coverage until I had to leave for work. Having spent months reading the thoughts and feelings of US strutters on here I'm not embarrassed to say that I felt like I had an emotional stake in what was unfolding and sat there with an incredible sense of pride for your country.
I was up until about 3am UK time last night, checking between the BBC and SS, enjoying every minute. Crawled off to bed when it looked like Obama was going to keep on keeping on, the 7am news was brilliant this morning. Well done America, and well done Soulstrut, have enjoyed the election via this board, good stuff. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/88.gif" alt="" 21 tonight for BO, I reckon.b,121b,121img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/word3rp.gif" alt="" 21 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerbang.gif" alt="" 21 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happyday.gif" alt="" 21 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/oj.gif" alt="" 21

Well, what a truly f*ckin' momentous night that was. I stayed up all night and watched the whole thing, from Vermont and Kentucky, right through to Obama's speech. I feel truly privileged to have witnessed a great moment in history unfolding, and the events of today are something of which all Americans can be truly proud. The world is already a better place than it was even 24 hours ago.
I was in front of the White House last night and honestly couldn't believe what was going on. It was as if the Berlin Wall came down...America winning the gold medal in hockey in 1980...everyone just came together and celebrated. People were hugging, singing the national anthem and chanting U.S.A. Pennsylavania avenue was just lined with people with cars stopped in the middle of the road and people laying on the horns. One cabbie was parked in the middle of the street, standing on the roof of his car with his hands up in the air and just standing there. It's one of those images that I'll always remember.b,121b,121Meb,121img src="https://www.msu.edu/~karatsin/wh1.jpg"1 b,121b,121Peeps in front of the White Houseb,121img src="https://www.msu.edu/~karatsin/wh2.jpg"1b, 21b, 21...and with the sign...b,121img src="https://www.msu.edu/~karatsin/wh3.jpg"1

font class="post"1b,121b,121True and very well said.
I also want to add that, despite putting in work for the campaign in three states, from the primaries through last week, I'm most proud of the fact that I was able to persuade djSave to vote Obama.b,121b,121Change.b,121b,121img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" 21
Man, I just woke up in a haze (late night scotch & cigar-related)... I live across the street from an elementary school. It's recess, and the kids are yelling "Obama! Obama! Obama! Obama!". I am beside myself. This is what it's about.
I went out just before 8pm PST, and got a call from my GF telling me it's been called for Obama. I got to admit that up until that moment I didn't think it was going to happen. I grew up thinking that it was impossible for anyone but a white Christian to be the Commander-in-Chief. Immediately I called my brother and told him I felt anything was possible. He told me that my half Mexican & Jewish 2 year old nephew had a household of people telling him now that he could be anything he wanted, the sky is the limit in terms of hope.b,121b,121Now its the day after and I'm loving the reaction. Downtown LA was pretty quiet last night, but the people I did see, the ones with their "I Voted" sticker, all seemed to have smiles on their faces.b,121b,121right now I feel both cheesy and compelled to say God Bless America

font class="post"1b,121b,121Something about the scotch cigar combo kicked my ass too. I got some good cigars at a scotch tasting a few weeks ago and I don't usually mess with them but figured last night was the right time to spark one. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badassbuddy_com-slowburner.gif" alt="" 21

font class="post"1b,121b,121As a mutt-lato, I will co-sign on the above. I've never had a leading figure in my country that reflected my own experience. I long for the day when we can get on that level too. Inspirational.b,121b,121Re: last night:b,121My wife's uncle lives right upstairs from us, and he was hosting a election party that started at 9 PM our time (3 PM EST) and went on till the early morning. Lots of happy people (everyone rooting for Obama), burgers, ribs, beer, wine, smoke and a 3-piece country/rootsrock band in a 5th floor apartment. Good times.b,121b,121I went to bed at 3 AM when I was fairly sure of the result (post PA-win), but most of the others went all the way. I woke up a couple of hours later when I could hear them through the ceiling, cheering and dancing during Obamas victory speech and I thought "shit yeah, it's a wrap" before falling asleep again. When I got up this morning they were still at it, drinking the last beers, eating the last ribs with a smile on their faces. b,121b,121I'm smiling too. Big up America. This is history in the making.
font class="post"1b,121b,121He's such a dick, isn't he? How someone so belligerent could ever be considered for a diplomatic position is beyond me...b,121b,121But, on a positive note, congratulations America. I was up late last night watching the results come in and was blown away by the scenes of celebration when it was called.
