AMERICA FUSK YEAH!b,121b,121damn damn damn! i feel like a large chunk of cynicism has evaporated off of me. i never believed this would happen. im so proud and happy. this is massive. this is a win for people of all different types. just beautiful, and im gonna allow myself to be sappy for the rest of this week!b,121b,121good on ya!
font class="post"1b,121b,121No diss bro but how can you sleep? Shouldnt there be some mad celebrations going down? Party time excellent and all that? Or even just the excitement of it all would keep me up....b,121 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yaoming.gif" alt="" 21

font class="post"1b,121b,121Sort of. My state is voting to ban gay marriage. Bigotry lives! b, 21b, 21h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121Okay one more comment here. Now 8 just right out wrong. Now I've only been one of you for 2 years, but Californians, you just can't make up your mind. Watching you go back and forth about rail propositions and now gay marriage is completely absurd. WILL YOU AS A STATE MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY??
I just got back from dancing in the streets with a couple hundred of my neighbors. Amazing spontaneous and ecstatic gathering on Adeline St. in Berkeley. Every car making its way through the crowd was honking like crazy and giving high fives to everyone in the crowd. Cops hanging back in the shadows, for now at least.

I went out to make a field recording of people celebrating, and as I was coming back one of my neighbors and a bunch of her friends grabbed me to go out with them eventually we wound up at a dance party on St. Marks Street. Someone had speakers on their fire escape blasting music, and fools went wild. The cops tried to shut it down, but eventually realized it was better to just block off the street. Incredible to be part of this country right now. Since I went to India I've realized how blessed we all are to live here, but at this point I feel down right proud of my American citizenship. b, 21b, 21Get some! We've done right this time!

font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121Almost All of our neighbors poured out of their houses and onto their porches screaming and yelling, hootin' and hollerin' Fireworks, carhorns bottles poppin!b,121b,121People were literally dancing in the streets. My thought and hope is that peoples spirits will and already are being lifted. Its like nothing I have ever seen and I have an immense sense of hope and admiration that I never thought I would feel.b,121b,121b,121I know its not like that everywhere, but it still feels good.

I ended up watching the returns literally a stone's throw from the Stock Exchange; my wife's homegirl lives directly above the building where George Washington was inaugurated and with a full view of that gargantuan American flag. Quite fitting.b,121b,121I arrived in Harlem around quarter to 2 to - more or less - crickets. I don't know if the cops cleared the streets but it's quiet as it's ever been.b,121b,121I smoked a cuban and drank scotch on my stoop with the young dunnies. They demanded to know if I voted for Obama but were not aware that marijuana was decriminalized in Massachusetts (potentially more important to their, uh, line of work).b,121b,121A lovely day like Bill Withers. A players holiday like TWDY. And, like it or love it, a beautiful day like U2, because of our Black President (like Fela).b,121b,121Good night, and God Bless. Tomorrow, it's a new day but we all have to get to work. As for me, I might have to sleep this one off... but once that's done, I'm getting down to work. No more bullshit. I am inspired.b,121b,121My best friend Bret was weeping. He never thought he'd see the day of a Black President... let alone a "mulato".b,121b,121Perhaps that's where my hope and enthusiasm stems from. I am a mutt - many of my friends are the same, and for Bret... this is a guy who grew up trying to play his allegiances between Irish, African-American, Seminole.... Obama is a sterling example that a MUTT can make it. b, 21b, 21That's not as important as the overall black/white dynamic here. We have a Black President, carried in no small part by Black Voters. But on another level, it's something to consider. Mixed race people - whether black irish, mexipino, or franco-persian. America is so much more than a country of immigrants... it is a country of integration on the basest level. We F*ck each other and have kids that draw on many, many levels of culture but... and I think I can speak to this... the "other" type of kid now has a role model. Are you half black half Korean? Half Jewish half Chinese? Like my wife and I say, short and hairy or tall and feminine? This is a win for you. For all of us. For Black People. For Everyone.b,121b,121I need to go to bed. It's 4. I'm going to finish off this scotch and retire.. What a night. Go Obama! Go America!
O is in striking distance of Bush's record of most votes ever. 91% of the national vote in and he's less than 2 million off.b,121b, 21This is has been an emotional, proud night. b,121b, 21Now the hard part begins.b,121b, 21Thank you everyone. Congrats and good luck.
