"AllHipHop.com has confirmed that influential comedian Rudy Ray Moore AKA Dolemite passed away on Friday (October 17) due to complications from diabetes. Moore began his career as a stand-up comedian in the late 1960s, and first gained international notoriety after co-writing and starring in the 1975, signature blaxpoitation film Dolemite. Through characters like Queen Bee and the fast-talking, street rapping Dolemite, the movie has gone on to achieve cult status and provided a blueprint to assist emcees like Snoop Dogg, Lil Kim, and Too $hort in the development of their stage personas. The success of the film spawned a 1976 sequel, Human Tornado AKA Dolemite II. Moore recently completed a third film titled The Dolemite Expression, which is slated for release this spring. Aware that Hip-Hop was an extension of his rapid-fire street punchlines (??????rappin??? and trappin??? is my game!???), Moore embraced the culture and since the late 80???s has collaborated with 2 Live Crew, Big Daddy Kane, Insane Clown Posse, and Snoop Dogg"b,121b,121a href="http://www.allhiphop.com/stories/news/archive/2008/10/20/20602351.aspx" target="_blank"1http://www.allhiphop.com/stories/news/archive/2008/10/20/20602351.aspx/a1

One of my fondest memories wss getting to hang out with him on the set of [i]Chic-A-Go-Go/i1 (an all-ages dance party cable-access TV show in Chicago)...when my friend Bob went to pick him up at the place he was staying, he graciously let me come along for the ride...Rudy was a genuinely nice guy, and seemed to be unusually on top of his business affairs (he was WORKIN' that cell phone)...when we got to the studio, it was the ONLY time I've ever seen the man work clean...he even told one of the children present, something like "NOW YOU CAN SAY YOU MET DOLEMITE!" (I know I'm messing it up, but it was something like that)...R.I.P.

  • I met RR Moore at a 70s convention and where all the other celebs were charging $10-$20 for autographs, he signed for free. He also was the nicest, softest-spoken, non-cursing and friendly man when not onstage. RIP to a true legend.
