hello, struts.b,121b,121i'm working on cooking some baked potatoes to accompany this turkey chili that i made up yesterday and the internets are leading me down the wrong road as far as the temp of the oven is concerned. i've seen everything from 300 to 550 degrees. i went with somewhere in between (365) and am counting on an hour cook time. i drizzeled 'em with some olive oil and sprinkled 'em with a little bit of sea salt. b,121b,121as far as the oven, i'm pushing a black frigidaire on 22s with spinners.b,121b,121am i on the right track with the temp? someone to plaese let me know. and thank you.b,121b,121

its just potatoes. Bakin at a high degrees is alright.b,121b,121300 will take too long. b,121b,121I usually wrap them in foil and bake at around 375-450.

Micro them for 3 minutes on each side. Don't forget the fork holes.

No microwaves, no foil. Do what you're doing: oil and salt. Cook at 400F for 45 minutes to an hour. Easy.

  • Foil helps retain moisture.b,121b,121It also depends on what type of potato your baking.b,121b,121Waxy potatoes dont need "foil".b,121b,121"Wrapping the potato in aluminium foil before cooking in a standard oven will help to retain moisture, while leaving it unwrapped will create a crispy skin."

Microwaving a jacket potato is not a good look at all. The crispy skin is the best part. I'm a firm believer that a potato will never taste better than cooked in foil at the bottom of a fire. Smoked potato heaven.

font class="post"1b,121b,121I dont own a microwave. One can easily unwrap near the end to achieve that crispy skin.

I also don't own a microwave though that's more to do with a popcorn/alcohol/memory lapse/fire incident than anything else and haven't missed it enough to replace it.

If your just really hungry, or limited for time, the microwave first then crisp in the oven option is good. Cuts the cooking time by 2/3.b,121b,121Using baked potatoes for mash is also highly recommended.

font class="post"1 b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121If you're looking for good nutrition, you shouldn't be fusking with potatoes in the first place. They're carb bombs with relatively low levels of other nutrients. For the most part, all you get out of them is a massive spike in your insulin levels.

Pops came down with type-2 diabetes several years ago and had to have a leg amputated last year as a result. I've been knowledging myself on insulin for a while, and it's not good to jack yourself up on carbs like that.
