This thread brings me back to 1990, longbox era. Here's the first joints I copped. I love the alternate Rolling Stones some girls artwork.

I bought these around the same time - can't remember which came first.

Would have been late 86/Early 87 when I got my first paycheck and bought a Trio (pre Kenwood) "System".

Choice was v. limited but I copped, on the same day:

David Sanborn - Straight to the Heart
Jimmy Smith - Off The Top
    Earl Klugh - Low Ride
    Dave Valentin - Jungle Garden

It's Better To Travel by Swing Out Sister. I bought it on vinyl too, not trusting the format. Plus I had no CD player, not trusting that the technology was anything other than a passing fad.
Three years and a hundred CDs later, I copped a Sony player that was appointed with a 5 CD player and a random button that was anything but.

it's funny but I can't remember the first CD I personally purchased. First CD I ever had was a gift but not something I would have bought myself.

Now it's bothering me. I think the earliest CD I can remember buying was Ice Cube's Wicked but I don't think that was actually the first one I bought. I do remember picking up the Chronic... actually that might have come from Columbia House.

First TAPE I ever bought was Fat Boys Coming Back Hard Again.

    EDIT:

This is the first time I have ever seen a video for this song. Over 25 years.

For as popular as they were, Fat Boys were terrible. Just awful. I loved that tape.

Those were great. It was like an event. Then it just degenerated to being wrapped in cellophane and an ant-theft strip.

A couple of years ago one of the one-off dollar stores here had a pile of CDs still in the longboxes, one of them being the Trespass soundtrack.

I was pretty late to the party, being unemployed (unemployable) for so long.
As soon as I had the funds to get a CD player this was the first thing I bought.

Kind of out of character at the time, but totally understandable now.
All sorts of memories float up now upon hearing it, some welcome... others not so much.
