  • For Ethiopian food in Seattle I like Saba, Mesob, and Meskel. Addis Cafe on 12th and Jefferson is also frequently good for late-night drinking and food.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah it just depends on your expectations whether or not you like the Ace.b,121In some regards it's a glorified hostel with cool decor but I think they have steppedb,121up the level of service in the last few years. I hear the Portland Ace is much nicer.

I thought of moving there for a while but the rent for places listed in Craigslist was really high! b,121b,121h,121
font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121Lol. Where are you now that you think rents here are high? I got a nice 2 bedroom with almost 1000 square ft. for $695 a month on the edge of one of the ritziest areas in the city. Shit is cheap, but to find a really good deal you need to be on craigslist all week, refreshing like a motherfucker. b,121b,121A 45 night at Disjecta sounds good, I'd show up. But also be aware that Portland can be very fickle about funk and soul nights. Dr. Wu could probably tell you more about that. I had a monthly night at a fairly hip bar for a little bit, but it didn't take long before the mobs of 35-year-old women complaining about the lack of danceable music made me quit. b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121Got-dam, haha...695??? I'm packing my boxes and bags now...I think you're onto something abt refreshing Craigslist...need to check that more often.b,121b,121I think a Disjecta night would definitely be a one-off test event to see if I like the vibe...Hypothetically speaking, that is.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Bill and Mary will have 3 tables of 45s.b,121b,121No shortage of good food, apartments, records or strip clubs in Portland. b,121b,121Err wait.. No records here!

  • Who are Bill and Mary and where are they from? Do they have a website or ebay seller ID?

font class="post"1b,121b,121I think that's the couple from Eugene with mad 45's. People were pulling some nice stuff from themb,121at the show last fall. My man DJ Greasy will be slangin 45's as well. If you promise to bring yourb,121wallet maybe I can convince him to bring some heavies.

  • I'm not coming to the show...if memory serves correct, it's set for Oct 18, right? I'm probably going to either the Austin Record Convention or WFMU...haven't decided which one yet...October looks like a tough month with a lot of great choices as far as record showsb,121b,121I have been wondering if there are any funk or soul 45s that were made in Oregon. I already know about some of the Seattle funk records thanks to that Light in the Attic Wheedle's Groove comp...

font class="post"1b,121b,121I'm not up on any from PDX although it seems like every town had at least a couple.b,121And good luck copping any of the Seattle ones, they don't pop up very often.

  • Agreed...although I did see a cracked copy of Black on White Affair's "A Bunch of Changes" on the bay months ago...

font class="post"1 b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121So true. The LITA dudes are great but they have gotten the guidance of some real deal heads over the years: Supreme, Sipreano, Sureshot etc. Without those dudes the most obscure stuff in their catalog would still be just that. Forever lost but to the few who tracked down the OG's.
