What do y'all think about this article? I've heard the issue discussed a couple of times, and was wondering what the Strutter opinion might sound like.b,121b,121b,121b,121http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...l&sn=003&sc=470b,121b,121Banning birth controlb,121b,121Not content with its incremental battle on abortion, the Bush administration has now decided that it's time to limit women's access to birth control.b,121More Opinionb,121b,121The Department of Health and Human Services is circulating the draft of a regulation that would allow health care professionals and institutions to refuse to provide women access to some of the most common forms of contraception, under the auspices that such contraception is a form of abortion. The purpose of the draft rule is to pre-empt state laws that have protected women's ability to get birth control at pharmacies where a particular pharmacist refuses to fill these prescriptions.b,121b,121"It's an effort to try to stigmatize contraception and family planning," said Marcia Greenberger, the co-president of the National Women's Law Center in Washington, D.C. "It should be a clarion call to women and men in this country that a kind of extremist view has begun to take hold - to make even birth control and contraception more difficult to secure, and that it could lead to the same kind of stigmatization that has existed in the case of abortion." • Wow, I'm blown away.

  • Can anybody explain the concept that contraception is a form of abortion? My major issue with pro-lifers is that they aren't for preventative measures like condoms that give people immediate benefit.

b,121b,121Moment of conception = moment that life begins. I can see the morning after pill being thrown into that category.

b,121b,121But if conception doesn't happen, then it isn't any conflict?

I can't believe this is such an important topic to these idiots, namely from the same people who seem to have a hard on for instigating World War 3.

b,121b,121Yeah, that's why I don't understand any other type of birth control being thrown in there -- aside from the morning after pill.

b,121b,121These people don't truly give a shit about conservative values. They're playing the conservative folks for votes while cashing in on the military industrial complex.

  • conservatives only give a shit about you until you're born, then, you're on your own...

b,121b,121That's what I thought, but there are a lot of ppl who are so adamantly pro-life that they might go along with the contraception ban just to further the cause.

I think a lot of this has to do with a straight up puritanical fear of sex. You'd think the people who are the most against abortion would want to lower the number of abortions through condoms, birth control, sex ed, etc. But usually they're also against all these too. The hate abortion, but they REALLY hate sex.

I wonder if Sarah Palin will change her mind about abstinence-only sex education now that her 17 year old is pregnant.

b,121b,121I was thinking that too. Doubt it tho.

  • Nope... they are spinning it as...b,121b,121Sarah Palins daughter got pregnant and she chose life!

b,121b,121Puritans fearing and hating sex is a huge myth.

b,121b,121The trick is that sometimes the morning after pill is just a big dose of regular old birth control pills. Hence (to the ardent pro-lifers) birth control pill = morning after pill, so if the morning after pill is an abortofacient, then so is the birth control pill.b,121b,121Here's that logic in GIF form:b,121b,121

  • Haha! Good post.

  • Menstruation is murder, don't waste any eggs!!!

  • So the same people trying to ban birth control and they instead deciding to beef up childcare? Improve wages so parents can provide for the child? Improve schools for these kids? b,121b,121b,121didn't think so.
