Dude, NO!!! Bellfort is a hack! That was luck.

I don't really ride for Belfort, but that was one of the illest first round knockouts in MMA. if you look close Wandy actually gets lifted off his feet!

and really: Belfort was a dope fighter. the hatchet wound he put in Eastman's head is one of the grimmest MMA injuries I've ever seen.

but his real glory days were as a Carlson Gracie protege before he ever really got into MMA. he was an ill BJJ competitor. plus his sister got kidnapped remember that? cut him some slack!

when he got into Jesus his career saw a slight uptick and then totally fell off.

Frank is one of the illest to ever do it. So much raw wrestling talent. And one of the first great Latino MMA practitioners.

This dude is no joke. That first punch is

That Shamrock vs. Le fight was one of the best fights I've seen in a long time.

Le is a one kick pony. Just sayin...

You think so? What makes you say that? He was pretty methodical in that Shamrock fight.

It was all kicks. Le is all kicks, the HL reel posted speaks to that fact. He doesn't throw heavy punches, no ground game, etc. He might look good in some old school video against a bunch of nobodys, but dude can't pull that kick only game off solidly against well rounded cats.

Frank fucked up when he refused to take Le to the ground. Pride is a MF.

ARONA v. NINJA is one of my favs; can't find a clip though.

and the pre-fight interviews where they talk shit and Ninja is singing Lionel Richie...priceless.

a REAL spotty record, but one of my fav MMA dudes ever is Busta. so much class. always seemed like a likeable dude.

    the Lion's Den guys

    How could I forget!

I hate both these dudes, but damn if that fight wasn't exciting.

Sperry's actual MMA record is not great, but he led one of the illest stables of fighters at one point. I'm a huge Top Team fan.

this was a very emotional fight for Ninja because despite the Top Team-Chute Box beef, Ninja apparently really looked up to Sperry. Sperry was sort of a legend.

aight I gotta get back to work.

I leave you all with a classic MMA bout.

I personally feel Rickson's legacy was overblown, but Zulu-Rickson is nonetheless one for the ages.

    Breaking: Legacy challenged!

Lengthy discussion of fighting gear to ensue. To keikogi or not to keikogi?

    Breaking: Legacy challenged!

he did his thing. somewhat inflated record, and always insisting on special gracie rules, etc. but still a solid career. don't forget that he sorta created UFC and thus opened MMA to the US market in a significant way.

the Gracie leagcy overall is the subject of legit debate. I think Rickson was largely hype. Royler was technically a good BJJ stylist but had boring fights and fought some cans. and so many of the other Gracies are plain doo doo. and they were eventually exposed by a lot of Japanese fighters (Sakuraba obviously being the most notable).

I think Renzo deserves the most respect for taking on real opponents and keeping the Gracie whining to a minimum. also the most sportsmanlike. renzo-newton is an alltime fav.

but Rolf might have actually been the most badass.

And Rorian produced whate are still some of the best instructional tapes out there (Gracie Basics, etc.) and those were made like 20 yrs ago.

plus Rorian's mustache game was on lock.

Yes he was the public Gracie face for UFC. It was my understanding that Royce conceptualized it but wanted to actually compete so was not involved in the actual planning. This could be heresay. Royce had the mustache though, so clearly he was the one making power moves.

No, Royce. Those clips are some of my earliest memories of MMA...

And please believe Rickson was the truth. Ayo elements aside, check out how this dude trained.

Def won't forget how he slammed Takada and treated him like a child in Pride's early days.

yeah but Pride 1 was sorta where it ended for him.

I respect his yoga and breathing routines, etc. and his wife was cute. but really his record was established in an era of open weight classes and total cans.

remember in "Choke" what a pompous ass he was? when he faced that dude in the final of the Vale Tudo Fighting Championship '95 that was like 100 lbs lighter than him and he was playing all honorable back stage with Renzo and them talmbout "I'll take it easy on him; no hits to the face" and then he totally bullied him. that cometition was sorta a joke IMO.

True, but i would guess that his prime was way before he entered these official mma events.

check out Wanderlei, bare knuckle style.

    Chute Boxe = Footstomps.

Shogun with the Fedor-esque pound (when they held the even in the U.S. = no kicking on the ground).

those knees to Saku's head were illegal no? isn't that what rendered the vovchanchin-kerr fight a N/C?

Pride rules. Knees to the head, kicks to the head (while on the ground), everything except for the bows and headbutts.
