i picked up a clean copy of gene harris & three sounds today. reminded me how much i like eleanor rigby. i remember a real nice version on a mixtape various years ago...possibly molemen? (my girl at the time used to call that tape "moleman" which i always thought was funny)

I know it's one everyone knows, but for me, the Aretha Franklin version is almost as good as it gets.

    hey c'mon.... The Crusaders !

  • "Third Wave" do an interesting, if slightly cloying version.

is this the Beatles' most covered song? or does that honour go to "something"?

    who is "third wave"

most covered would have to be "Hey jude"
but they got lots of often covered songs. would be interesting to see a bar graph

  • who is "third wave"

A pop jazz-ish vocal group comprising 5 Filipino sister produced and arranged by George Duke. The MPS lp "here and now" goes for about 50-70 American but "love train", a 45 only song (with breaks and all), is really where it's at.

This and the Booker T & The MGs versions are two of my favourites.

No doubt, thanks again for the Quinn Harris LP. I'm working on a 45 to bless you with for the nice trade, and give me a call I know someone who scored a couple copies of Lee Moses - Reach Out, I'll Be There 45, you need one of those since i traded you the peak of a Dj Save at ZUZU set.

their version, and THIS are the two most known alternate versions that immed come to my mind.

Its pretty much the only thing I know Stanley Jordan for, so I equate it with his theme song.

Its the baby daddy to this phenomenon in japan, lol

May I present to you Sisqo - Thong Song (replayed/interpolated)

I wonder if the real Elanor Rigby wore a thong tha thong tha thong....

    Wes Montgomery - Eleanor Rigby

Sisqo - Thong Song (original, clearly sampling that Wes Montgomery)

No love for the Jackie Wilson version?

Same backing track as the Gene Chandler mentioned above.

I figured I'd let someone else drop the Jackie

Just got that Gene Chandler LP over the weekend, what a great version.

As far as ones that don't sound like the OG my favorite goes to the 7 minute+ Teagarden & Van Winkle cover with that great organ line

I hated that song so much, I never even considered that correlation.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

My vote for ERigby covers goes to Natural Gas.
