    NRR mailbox find:

  • here's some bits from the last few days - some cheap stuff from the Bristol record fair today - some plastic wax cheapies and some 7's from a charity shop.

The MARTINU JAZZ thingy looks more interesting than it is - some MOR classical compositions supposedly inspired by jazz!! PHIL WOODS has a good "freedom jazz dance" on it. The HAMPTON HAWES has loads of nice beats and grooves on - Axelrod produced.
i thought i was after the PAUL BRETT but i think i was confused -- its rubbish.
pleased to get an OG MOOG POWER for cheap finally.

    the 7's are:
SUZI QUATRO - "the wild one"
JOSE FELICIANO - "light my fire"
JOHNNY MANDEL - "theme from mash (suicide is painless)
    DONOVAN - "jennifer juniper"
GEORGIE FAME - "sitting in the park" (i'm loving this tune)
SAM THE SHAM & THE PHAROAHS - "wooly bully"
NINA SIMONE - "aint got no - i got life"
the top one is a promotional record released by Pledge polish!! a side is a piss-wek song by Jeff Wayne called "let the sun come into your life" - but the b side is 4 little bits of EZ hammond stuff that i guess you could polish your house to -- those are pretty fun. one has good drums.

Pretty desperate times for buying vinyl down here at the moment, not much going on at all. Hit up a thrift store & scraped up some jazz LPs, I can't not buy cheap copies of that Ramsey Lewis LP. Anyone know the story with that version of the cover for the Jimmy Witherspoon LP? It's different from the others I've seen online, original DG LP though. Otherwise there's some set sale action, some cheap doubles to thrash & a few other 45s I dug up to add to the collection.

    45s
Cannonball Adderley - Why Am I Treated So Bad? - Capitol
Ray Barretto - El Watusi - Tico
Ray Barretto - Jazz Pachanga - Riverside
Bobby Patterson - How Do You Spell Love - Paula
Rodger Collins - She's Looking Good - Galaxy
Four Mints - I'm Gonna Keep On Loving You - Capsoul
    R. Dean Taylor - There's A Ghost In My House - Tamla Motown
Jackie Lee - The Shotgun & The Duck - Mirwood
Etta James - Two Sides To Every Story - Argo
Junior Parker - Wait For Another Day - Duke
Calvin Leavy - Give Me A Love That I Can Feel - Soul Beat
Soul Brothers Six - You Better Check Yourself - Atlantic
Flip Phillips - s/t EP - Clef (with the 2nd cover variation)
Mel & Tim - Backfield In Motion - Bamboo
    The Rugbys - You, I - Amazon
Jay & the Techniques - Stronger Than Dirt - Smash
Righteous Bros - Justine - Moonglow
Brenton Wood - Gime Little Sign - Double Shot
Sal Salvador - Kenton Presents Jazz EP Part 2 - Capitol
Timi Yuro - Should I Ever Love Again - Liberty (nice R&B ballad, that voice!!)
Bobby Hebb - Love Love Love - Philips
Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl - Bang
Vanity Fare - Megowd (Something Tells Me) - Page One (don't sleep on this organ heavy groover, maybe their only worthwhile track??)
The Vibrations - Watusi - Chess
The Radiants - Voice Your Choice - Chess
Paul Revere & The Raiders - Peace Of Mind - Columbia (one of their good ones)
Beau Brummels - Don't Talk To Strangers - Autumn
Magic Lanterns - Friscoe Annie - Big Tree (rocking later stuff from these dudes, strong both sides)
Ohio Express - Beg Borrow & Steal - Cameo (their first 45? much tougher than their later stuff, this is a cool rewrite of "Louie Louie")
The Drifters - Baby What I Mean - Atlantic (raw, up tempo soul from their mid/late Atlantic years, killer)
Johnny Thunder - Everybody Do The Sloopy - Diamond (cool "Hang On Sloopy" cash in track)
The Buckinghams - You Make Me Feel So Good - USA

does it sound as good as it's astronomical price tag?

  • NateBizzoNateBizzo 2,328 Posts
It's all relative, but yes. It's very very good mix of sweet soul, soul, gospel, funk, and a kiddie version of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised". Probably the raerest record I own.

  • I like to get random stuff when it???s only a dollar.

Oh, and I???m just a boy.

  • Come on peeps? Post them pictures. I love looking at record covers!
