Doug Riley, Dr. Music

So I've spent part of my Veteran's Day listening to Doug Riley's fourth album, and only release for RCI: Dr. Music. For the most part, it's septet jazz band stuff like you might expect to come from Canada in 1977. But then the last song comes on and I'm like, "What?" Did Steely Dan drop in for this number or something? "Time for Goodbye" is the spitting image of a Steely Dan song, and I mean that as a very nice compliment. It's on vinyl, so sorry, no MP3-ish.DR.     All the Doctor Music records are worth checking out, except that CTL turn that goes for absurd money with the French modern crowd.

    For my money, the best Doug Riley effort is the Fox Lady OST.

    I have an extra copies of most of his LPs except the '84 CTL LP and the OST.

    Yep, I'm pretty sure it's the same Doug Riley.

    Not only is Doug Riley from Canada, there are few Canadian musicians with such long and prolific careers. His Dr. Music catalogue is hugely under-appreciated, I think.
