You played drums for Bill Deal & The Rhondels?

i did program the drums, and add the bass tones. look dude, its clearly from my recording. if they just used the same break i wouldnt have posted it.

  • Be proud! I think what they did with it is nice too.

    Hmmm,I don't hear it.

  • Their bass sounds more like an 808 tone to me (well a sine bass anyway) and is in a similar pattern but I don't think its identical.

you guys honestly dont hear it? trust me, i worked on chicago for months. its identical. maybe youre listening to the wrong sample, its the SECOND track. heres a direct link to the mp3 of their's:

    http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF286550-01-02-01.mp3

either way, it doesnt matter, just thought it was interesting.

  • I had to listen to the two together but it sounds like it. So A-Ko. You're saying you chopped the beat and added the the bass stabs? If so it sounds like a bite. If the bass stabs are on the original break, I'd have to do more analyzing before I would go either way.

Here lies one of the sampling conundrums.

I've always believed in the fuck it attitude. I sample, so if someone samples me, I'm just putting back into the pot, so to speak.

Now if I'm a broke ass, bedroom/myspace producer, and my shit ends up on a major release like that 50c audio two flip, then I can see wanting to get some of the pie. Problem is, when you sample, the owners of the publishing and stuff get that piece of pie anyway so all you can hope for is a credit, to mark on the belt and open you up to future work.

If it's your sequence, get credit.

yeah, i mean its not like im going to do anything anyway. even if they sampled some huge melodic chunk, what could i do? i sampled stuff to make my thing anyway. thats just how it works with this shit.

the bass stabs are chopped from a general crook 45. drums are bill deal and the rhondels. id recognize the drum chops and especially the bass stabs anywhere and they definitely sampled my record. no two ways about it. they just pitched it up a half step or maybe a whole one.

I gotta give it to A-Ko on this one. Congrats, kid.

i like my record better anyway!

  • Yea DJ A-Trak did that to one of our radiohead breaks that panzah made. He straight took our version and then added an additional drum layer on top... then threw a lil scrappy accapella on top. Like... We weren't tripping, but its frustrating when people straight take your edits of things. And what can we do.... HEY... You stole our stolen song!

I donno tho man. This one is a close call. The bass stabs are from a different song? in the drum break? Or in a later part in the song? Your version is doper to me anywho.

Its like robbing a drug dealer... what you gonna do? call the cops.

    Its all good tho.

bass stabs are definitely same ones i used, same pattern with the exact same drum chops. bass stabs and drums are from 2 completely unrelated records. odds are 1 in a million that they happened to chop the drums identically, sample the same bass stab, pitch it up and down in the same pattern i did from the same 45 i did and then use it under a song where it doesnt exactly sound natural, at all...but works regardless.

There is no question whatsoever that they sampled your record.

That shit is the epitome of weak.

It's one thing to sample something new, but taking SOMEONE ELSES HARD WORK who chopped up, sequenced and dug for those records is straight up bullshit.

btw - there's no DJ Tibb.

im not too mad since its the simplest part of the song. the thing that bothers me is people apparently not being able to recognize how blatant it is!

If it were me, I don't think I'd be too mad depending on what it was and how it was done, but still, that shit is pretty weak.

true. different people have different personal rules when it comes to sampling i guess. this is about as far away from something i'd even think of doing as somebody could get.

plenty of people have used those drums, and i heard the general crook bass i used on some track rjd2 produced (after i finished chicago, mind you). its not an issue with WHAT they sampled, i could care less about that, but why sample my beat that already utilizes the samples?

Hold up - Tib is real, they just spelled his name wrong on the record. Here's your beatbiter:

    http://www.myspace.com/speenoakadjtib

(His other tracks are a mess)

Its particularly odd that this is the official remix of a shit-rare Curtis cover thats reished on the A (and, unfortunately, several of us will probably have to buy it for this reason). He just grafted your track to the OG from the bit that I listened to.

So... should I post a scan of Ako's Chicago 45 and ask if he's into this kind of music?

Yeah... also ask him if he's a fan of MC Shan!

  • Yea I wouldn't be suprised if theres a whole school of producers who just come through soul strut and download and sample shit you guys upload here.

i love it i must admit. AKO tune is real good, a great beat, but more of a cut'n'paste b boy type thing. the jazzman tune is a totally different vibe. they would actually probably go good back to back??
