Not to disrespect Byrd's memory, and not trying to "son" Hookup, but I think this is Bobby Day (of "Rockin' Robin" fame). He also recorded off and on as "Bobby Byrd", and the two always get confused for each other in discographies. I think the JB Bobby Byrd would have been a Famous Flame when this single came out.
very early Bobby Byrd:
well, the way I understood it, this is The Hollywood Flames under a different name, and didnt the Hollywood flames become the Flames(after a spell as the Five Flames)?

The Hollywood Flames started as just "The Flames" - and are unrelated to the Famous Flames of JB fame. The Bobby Byrd in the Hollywood Flames is Bobby Day, who went on to have solo hits and to be the first "Bob" in Bob & Earl with fellow Flame Earl Nelson.

One of the few with his face where JB's was (but couldn't they have picked a better shot?)
Rest peacefully, Mr. Byrd.
For an egomaniac like James Brown to replace his face with Byrd's...that's what you call respect. Even Hank Ballard didn't get that treatment.
Much prettier (no hijack).
