No one's really explained the appeal of Mandrill. What the drillyyo. I'm bored, entertain me.
READ THE ARTICLE. if you haven't read it stay out of this convo until you have (not just you, my kobe suckling friend... that goes to everyone)
So what is the big revelation in the article? Quick summary for us infidels who haven't read it, please.
Unless they're coming with some tektonic-plate moving revelations, I'm still on the WAR team. Their catalogue is just more solid and the songwriting is more consistent. A lot of Mandrill's albums are a bit uneven. That doesn't mean that they don't have some killer jams, but WAR wins the match on points IMO. People who call Starbucks because of stuff like "Why Can't We Be Friends" are way off.
the big greasy ex-convict lookin' mutha in Mandrill is actually a Harvard graduate and went to med school before jammin' with the band and gettin' stoned every night .... that ALONE means that Mandrill > War

You can argue that Madrill was SMARTER than War, based on this fact....but not better.
At the end of the day, the songs themselves matter. The live performances, all that shit is just memories.

Very record collector-esque comment.
Um, I'm a record collector
But for real we are talking about a Mandrill article in Wax Poetics, versus a band that has these huge, era-defining tunes... I don't see what could be *less* record collector about my (wide) stance.

Animal played drums for the Muppets.
