I got a letter from my health insurance today saying that they recieved a claim that suggests a pre - existing condition... They want to sign a document releasing all my prescription and medical history. Basically I hate flying so I take zanax to chill.. its not really a fear of flying just I hate screaming babies and basically the waiting and all that goes along with flying.. My Doc a year ago wrote me a prescript for zanax.. I was covered by my companies health insurance and no questions were asked.. I honestly forgot about it. fast forward a year later and I am taking a trip with my lady and her family I wanted to chill so I get my new doc to write a prescription (neither this or the old prescript had refills on them) and then I get flagged by my new insurance.. I feel like this is going to be a SICKO story.. like I get dropped or my fee gets bumped up another $80 a month because a year ago I got a prescription for zanax and all the sudden I am a person with social issues... Do I have to sign off on the release?... What are my options? anyone delt with this?

Not at all, Valium was first marketed as "Mother's little helper." Also its not a question of tolerance but anxiety, some people are more sensative than others.

From my understanding, which is limited, but were you ever uninsured in the time between carriers? when i had to switch insurances, they said that any pre-existing conditions would be covered, so long as I was always covered- which included my ears, which required surgery. But, if I let my coverage lapse, then they would not be covered by new insuarance.

And Rock, please to not discount the anxiety in flying, and everyday life, and the need for people to take drugs. I had a lot of anxiety issues for a while, and it ain't to be trifled with.

Crying babies + 10-hour flights = pass the pills, please.

why dont you just pay for the pills out of pocket if you only need them once in a while to fly?

Seriously. International flights used to have free booze for a reason.

Everything is a pre-existing condition. That's why that is such bullshit.

Scripts for shit like Benzos and Viagra get flagged by the system because they are often used for recreation. I'm struggling to think of a medical use for Viagra, but that's another story.

    Do not sign the document.

Drive to your local methadone clinic, go to the nearest bus stop. Someone there should have plenty of Benzos.

i love the commercial for levitra where the black guy is doing the voice over about how it stays active for like 12 hours in case the moment gets interrupted, and it shows him and his wife at a restaurant eating dinner, and then the goofy white couple pass by outside and start banging on the restaurant window and waving and then the next shot they have joined them for dinner. I keep wishing that when they start banging on the window the guy would be like "oh shit, now what the hell do they want?" And then while they're all at dinner he could be looking at his watch and starting to get pissed, like interrupting them and being like "yea, well it was good seeing you ...."

cause that would be my reaction

This proponent of a single payer system says, "NO."

There's nothing wrong with utilization management, but two principles are fundamentally problematic with our current system:

    1) the bullshit "pre-existing" rule. take a fucking biology class, everything is pre-existing.

    2) the fundamental conflict of interest between providing effective care and turning a profit.

Fuck that... Speaking of quitting your whining.

I had anxiety problems for years. Why, you ask? Because me ears were all fucked up, and I felt like I was falling down. Made driving a load of fun.

Ended up getting surgery to fix the ears, but by that time, anxiety had become its own issue.

I'm not saying someone elses problems aren't real; I AM saying that Dr. Rock and Nurse Prog need to GTFOHWTBS that anxiety isn't a 'real' medical disorder, and you should just 'sack up'.

Go read the post that we're responding to here.....dude JUST wanted to deal with babies and patience...he even said he had NO flying anxiety.

If you have some sort of diagnosed medical condition that's one thing.

If you just can't deal with everyday life without drugs, that's another.

I read his post, and yours, and you are painting with a much broader brush up top than you are in this last post.

This last statement of yours is reasonable...the other stuff comes across as incredibly judgmental and flippant about what is a serious issue.

If liver damage is the concern here, doesn't drinking damage your liver as well? Both alcohol and benzos have physical and psychotropic effects, which are why people take them. It seems that if you're arguing against taking benzos to relieve stress/anxiety while flying because of the liver damage it causes, you should probably be arguing against drinking alcohol since it also damages your liver.

Just making a logical argument. I drink and believe that using prescription drugs for their intended purposes is perfectly reasonable.

  • FatbackFatback 6,746 Posts
True. But Benzos are worse. Not to mention, when combined with ETOH, the leading cause of mortal OD.

Not a fan of of pharmacological treatment for anxiety. There many effective cognitive behavioral therapies for anxiety disorders--especially phobias.

I never said anxiety is not a real and valid medical problem. It certainly is.

What I'm saying is that certain meds(like zanax) are waaaay over prescribed. You can't deny that.

I would say that your anxiety about your inner ear problems is way more valid than "I can't deal with screaming kids and crowds for a few hours".

Please point out were I said anxiety isn't a real medical issue.
