Quick note to all soul/funk dealers Re: east coast eBay buyer Eugene Ginzburg (ebay id: eugdankbids85):This buyer ran a Paypal chargeback scam on myself, Anthony Pearson and several other eBay dealers back in March 2007. It was the perfect crime: he paid for all merchandise, left positive feedback upon receipt, then used Paypal's chargeback system to retrieve his funds. None of the dealers won any of their reversal claims except myself (out of $350 lost, I received reversals on two of the three cases that were filed against me). Please join us in a boycott by adding eugdankbids85 to your blocked bidder list. If they left you positive feedback, isn't that evidence that they are full of shit? How does that work? Does paypal's chargeback system do any kind of investigating or do they just take your word for it?? I only ask because I am about to list 50 or 60 auctions and I don't want to get screwed by some douchebag. Paypal sounds so detrimental with all of the chargeback stories I've been hearing. Is there a worthwhile alternative? BidPay?

positive f/b doesn't add up to much.

your only insurance against paypal claims is to adding tracking to EVERY order you send out.

the best way i know how to break it down is this: ebay is on the dealer's side and paypal is on the buyer's side. it's just the way it is and i can't imagine it changing any time soon. it can be tough out there but after 8+ years ebaying, i'll add that 98% of my orders go through with no problems.

  • More people need to not be afraid to give out negative feedback in fear of the same feedback returned. This way everyone knows he is a worthless buyer. I properly slap negatives out to all suspect buyers. The best thing you can do is to send everything out registered mail and your perfectly safe seeing as how signature is required. Certainly don't leave any buyer positive feedback until something like a few weeks after the package arrives to them. IMO paypal will screw both the seller/buyer time & time & time again.

If you sent out a $200 vinyl without tracking or proof of signature, the buyer can easily go to paypal say he got nothing and if you can't prove he did.... your screwed... Not even a chargeback.. simply a non received package claim.

Now it also works the same exact way for sellers, if i sold a $200 vinyl i could send you an empty cardboard mailer or garbage record with proof of tracking & adult signature required. It would be he said she said... and best believe the seller would win with proof of shipping and delivery.

I'm sure you could only get away with a handful of times before either ebay or paypal will catch you.

EDIT* of course that user is paying for great deals like this when he wins them.

Rimshots Down To Earth Stang LP NM- $4.99 winning bid from fairwayfriend out in cali.

yeah, i exposed this punk back in march on this board....i actually won my claim and got my loot back (minus the creditcards $15 fuckyou fee) but hey, better some than none at all...

from what i got from the paypal rep, if you send to an unconfirmed buyer, then youre leaving your ass exposed....only send to confirmed buyers and youre safe......

    or so paypal claims........

What I would like to know is why would Paypal allow "unconfirmed buyers" to use their service???

Will thanks for the heads up, added to ban list.

A: I think 'unconfirmed' just means you don't have a credit card on file. Some people want to use paypal but don't want to put a credit card on file, they just put money in it and pay for auctions with it but paypal can not confirm that their paypal address is the same as a credit card address. So lots of legit people are 'unconfirmed' and probably some non-legit people are probably 'confirmed'.

Chargebacks suck, but they happen pretty rarely. Be suspicious of no/low feedback bidders, suspicious bidding, and winners who leave positive feedback earlier than would be expected.

I think if the dealers stick together it will be harder for the low life charge backers to really get away with it much.

we've been through this one quite alot.

check it out, tracking won't give you SHIT. registered mail? HEEEEELLLLL NO.

you can win a chargeback if it is cancelled by the crook, or if he lives in a country that is coverd by paypal. those countries are.......................................USA, CANADA, UK, ?? maybe that is it. call paypal and talk to a claims specialist. just sit on the phone with them after printing out the paypal user agreement (aka the necrinomicon) a highlighter, and a glass of scotch on the rocks.

Chargebacks suck, but they happen pretty rarely.

Not according to the number of threads and stories
from heavy internet sellers around here - seems like
it's a fairly common practice among record buyers.
Shit, I've had 2 chargebacks threatened just from
dudes not getting their packages in 3 days.

  • hcrinkhcrink 8,729 Posts
I honestly do think it's rare. I've had I think 3 people run charge-backs on me in the last 4 years. 2 got away with less than $20 and one was honest but impatient and canceled it. This is out of probably 2,000+ people I've dealt with in this period. but that does not change the fact that paypal is making it too fucking easy for this shit to happen.

huh - that surprises me. with the number of times
this comes up, and how every time another 5 people
will post like "I just got ripped off last week,"
I was under the impression it was out of control.

Thanks for the heads up. Dudes, anytime and everytime some shit like this gets pulled on you, post it up here so that we all know what's up, save each other from getting scammed.

Sometimes I think it's a miracle that more people aren't getting fucked over by shady stuff like this. It is way too easy and Paypal is run by robots it seems.

I think it's just a combination of fear and the fact that paypal is not at all helpful when it does happen. I think shipping quickly and good communication go a long way, but obviously there are some dishonest dick-heads out there... as I can vouch for Will being as solid of an eBay dealer as exists.

I knew that guys ID was familiar.
Sold to him earlier this year with no problemos, but added him
to the blocked list on the strength.
    We gotta stick together!

  • Just so folks know from my end i've sent out over 3,000 vinyls via ebay. I have never been hit with one chargeback and further from that I have never had anyone makes threats to me of a chargeback/negative feedback due to non delivery or slow delivery. Once in a while i'll get some hardass who thinks i actually work for him and demands i do everything his own way.

I'm grateful having only delt with reasonable people thus far. So all the stories do not fit from my point of view. Saying this problem does happen rarely or hardly happen at all i cant say for sure.

  • i actually won my claim and got my loot back

i am glad to hear this.

One thing you should not over look when dealing with a chargeback is a
    "friendly" phone call.

we once had a buyer from italy whom I was 100% certain was lying about not recieving a large package, so I called him.

He was shocked to say the least, although now that I think about it, I dont think the phone call did much because he still went through with the claim. It was only when I left him all negatives and blasted his name all over the boards that he relented and reversed the chargeback.

But I still think calling the fucker ( especially a U.S. buyer ) is not a bad idea.
Give them a reminder that you are real person they are screwing and not just a faceless name on ebay.

I still wouldn't hesitate to try this method. Keep the threats to a minimum though.

From the point of view of a strict ebay Buyer, who is too lazy to ever get into selling...

I don't give a shit if you have a few negatives...I figure, even as a buyer, it is the price of doing business on ebay. So, don't be afraid to get a few negatives, and charge it to, 'el partido,' or 'the game.' I ain't looking for 100%, and I assume I speak for most buyers out there.

These people are what negs were meant for...don't be afraid to flex.

  • Today I got an email from paypal and they overturned his dispute in my favor. They realized it was fraud. Will and I communicated with paypal about the problem but it took three months to resolve it. This guy Eugene is a terd. Later, ap
