"Oh baby I like it "
An entertaining read:
I've been curious about that book, but a friend of mine was recently trying to steer me away from it, saying that it's no good, and that it ends up taking some oddly conservative stances culturally and politically. Not so?
Actually it was Joel Rifkin.
heres an excerpt from a short biography on their lives after the band ended in 1974
"After the split, Mike Patto joined Spooky Tooth for their last album The Mirror (1974), Ollie Halsall joined John Hiseman's Tempest, Clive Griffiths played with Alexis Korner's CCS and John Halsey worked with Grimms, Joan Armatrading, Lou Reed, and many others before joining up with Ollie again to get involved with Neil Innes and Eric Idle's RUTLES project. Starring as Barry Wom in the movie.
Mike and Ollie formed BOXER in '75, their first album being better remembered for its cover than its contest. Two more albums were recorded, but Mike Patto's career was sadly arrested by illness. He was diagnosed as suffering from lymphatic leukemia, and after a brave fight he died on 4 March 1979, in great pain.
Ollie continued to be in great demand as a session musician, but is probably best known for his lengthy career as Kevin Ayers unassuming sideman. Clive and John also joind Kevin Ayers for a tour in Europe. This came to very little, as whilst Ollie was into the "Ayres" scene in a big way, the two others were not overimpressed.
Back home, Clive joined Joe Brown's outfit, whilst John set up a profitable business from door-to-door selling of fish!! Eventually John also joined Joe Brown's outfit and for a while found himself at Lowerstoft fish marked 2 hours after returning home from a gig. On their way home from one of these gigs in the '80s, they were involved in a terrible road accident.
Poor Clive suffered brain damage and was permanently paralysed down one side. He is also unable to remember the PATTO's. John suffered terrible injuries and although he now walks with a parrot on his shoulder, is much recovered. He now runs a pub in Lincolnshire.Ollie continued to play as a session man for many artists and put down roots in the village of Deia, Spain. He died of an overdose of heroin in Madrid 29 May 1992. Only a month earlier he had played three concerts with Kevin Ayers at the Shaw Theatre in London, where he was still in quite superb form."
Let's just say you don't read it to hear about the authors' political agenda. I borrowed it from a friend for the violence porn and shock value. It's not one of the all time great music books, merely "an entertaining read."
I would also suggest reading PEOPLE FUNNY BOY. Indepth bio of perry and his work.
I'd actually love to see one on the whole Latin Quarters circa late 70's - mid 80's
I'm sure theres enough stories there to make a Ken Burns-like documentary
Sounds good. The friend in question scrutinizes everything for poltiical affrontery, so I wouldn't reject anything on his say-so alone.
Wow. Just....wow.
Oh man, I forgot about Rifkin. He lived a couple miles from me.
I'd like to see a movie about Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson and how they were involved in building Detroit techno. I don't know if it's urban legend or not, but supposedly they bought all their equipment with stolen credit cards and had it shipped to abandoned buildings.
ALSO I'd love to see a movie about Timothy Leary.

more of a glimpse into the world of. not a documentary. but his political comentary is
that would be pretty slick
actually, and this isn't really related, i would love to see an actual good movie about al capone. untouchables was pure poo and hardly based on historical fact. james gandolfini would make an excellent capone.
Not senior?
My local church was burned down by Christian Vikernes.
I just heard the story behind this band. If they had actually made it Vietnam to do the tour they were planning, it would have been one of the most incredible bio-pics ever.
This would be great!
But who could possibly play him?
